We recently connected with Lina Franklin and have shared our conversation below.
Lina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is an interesting word. We all measure success in different ways. Although it shows up differently for all of us, there are three undeniable pillars to success. The first
is genuine interest. Genuine interest may seem obvious but sometimes it’s not. The
world imparts an abundance of influence along with our personal beliefs, it can be
challenging to stay true to yourself. True authenticity is earned. The second pillar is
curiosity. To achieve any goal it takes strategy or training. Curiosity is a very open way
to learn. It creates a desire for the information you receive. Even if the answer is “right in
your face”, it’s not always in your mind. The third and most crucial pillar is resilience.
Resilience is the oxygen to any plan. Genuine interest and curiosity will have its ebbs
and flows. Resiliency will keep you on the course until your goal is complete. Your ability
to sustain during challenges is the one thing you must acquire or possess.
Lina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Lina Franklin, the creator of HAIRSCAPING, a trendy hair cuttery. I am a mother, wife, creative, and entrepreneur. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for a decade and
licensed master barber for 5 years. Natural talent landed my career choice. After losing
a decent job, I had to find a way to enjoy work. I was always experimenting on hair
curling, hair coloring, and braiding. I chose cosmetology for my trade school.
Cosmetology and barbering combined has morphed me into a haircut specialist. That
sparked my hair cuttery aspirations. HAIRSCAPING provides the latest hair looks
especially for those with wavy to tight coiled hair. The curly hair community has been
limited with styles & salon confidence. Our focus on quality and style sets us apart. I am
most proud of the diversity the brand has been able to attract. HAIRSCAPING has been
the first American haircut for visitors and migrants. It allows us to celebrate every
texture of hair and explore all types of styles.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele has been through the use of SEO. Search engine optimization is important if your business benefits your local community. I
can’t say I planned it. I followed up on an unsolicited sales call that offered maximum
optimization. Once I found my link to the public, I used advice from internet gurus and
nurtured that outlet as much as I could. I still rely on word of mouth and business cards
to spread awareness. Human touch is powerful.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I’d like to introduce Marquita Mitchell. Marquita and I met in high school. Over the years we kept a close knit relationship that was not based in business but has evolved. Once I launched HAIRSCAPING as a salon suite, Marquita was eager to add her skills to the start up company. She possesses marketing skills, management experience, and a degree in Business Administration. We have combined our talents to create the HAIRSCAPING buzz that Decatur, Ga loves. The goal of the team is not to be alike, but to think together. We are excited for our official grand opening in the coming 2023.
