Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lily Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lily , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
‘Amphora’ is the highly anticipated album by vocalist and musician Lily Taylor, set to release in July 2023. The album was recorded at Elmwood Recording, a renowned studio located in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. Co-produced by Alex Bhore with Lily Taylor and Black Taffy as the main producers, ‘Amphora’ promises to be a well-crafted album that showcases Lily Taylor’s artistry and musical talent.
“This project was years in the making, crafting in the studio, performing different versions. I’m very pleased to be able to share this special project this summer by performing and selling the LP.” Two of the songs on Amphora are co-written by Black Taffy and myself, ‘Kepler Wells’ and ‘Ever New’. These songs are dear to my heart, but each and everyone of them are gems in their own right with different themes and sonic landscapes. Can’t wait to share” – Lily Taylor
Lily , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Some people may know me from listening to my last album, The Ride, or live performances, others may know me because I booked their band, or featured their music on my radio show, and yet others may know me from taking voice lessons.
I studied music in Santa Fe, NM at College of Santa Fe Contemporary Music Department, and then worked professionally in San Francisco for many years before moving to DFW. I’ve booked small venues and underground shows around the metro-plex over 1000 times, so I feel solid in saying the time has come for me to focus on my own projects and the radio show.
The album Amphora releases in July with three singles, and I hope to perform with collaborator Black Taffy as much as possible. I also have an audio / visual project called LOCATIONS that is a collaboration with video artist and educator Sean Miller. BandwidthTX happens every second and fourth Tuesday of the month 7-8pm, CST on KUZU LP Denton, TX.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Music consumption varies per person, some collect vinyl, others stream everything, or prefer live concerts. We can actively participate in the music that we listen to, or we can passively take suggestions from the modern world around us. Both are great, however one takes a little more effort. I hope to encourage people to stay curious about music and new artists, to take note of artists who are forging their own personal paths, performing at smaller venues or featuring their music on independent radio stations. Discovering new music will bring value into your life that you may not have even considered you would enjoy, and at the same time will bring support and awareness to your local creative communities.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media posts and engagement with followers is only one part of the promo machine. In my experience, my following happened one show at a time, following other performers, the venues, and engaging with audience members who wanted to keep in touch about future events. The reach of social media is only as good as the algorithms of the companies who offer the service in exchange for our data, that’s why people use several different platforms, to reach different demographics of people per platform. Any consistent pattern of use will help boost post views in some way, you have to find what will work for you and the people to whom you are marketing.
