We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lily Braidich a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lily, appreciate you joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
Hi everyone, my name is Lily and I am currently a Licensed Esthetician in the state of Tennessee! I just graduated in March of this year from Paul Mitchell the School in Nashville. It has been a great ride so far since I have been nothing but determined to achieve my goals! I was dedicated to finding a job in the Aesthetics industry as soon as I could, so I began applying to jobs right after I took my state board tests in April. After interviewing with multiple places, I came across Oasis Face Bar located in Edgehill Village Nashville! I am a very intuitive person so I knew as soon as I spoke with the franchise that I wanted to work there! I have always wanted to own my own business, but being the kinesthetic learner that I am, I wanted experience with working among other estheticians in the industry to broaden my knowledge and expand my techniques. After I interviewed with the owner Lindsey via Zoom, she contacted me about a week later to offer me the job! I was super grateful and excited to start my journey. It’s been a blessing ever since!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For as long as I could remember, I have been fascinated with the beauty industry. My love for makeup ever since a pre-teen eventually morphed into my interest in skincare. I have done freelance makeup artistry for a couple years for weddings, proms, events, etc. and I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge by working towards my Esthetician License! I figured for me to be the best at what I do, I wanted to be well rounded when it came to anything skin related! Here at Oasis Face Bar we provide facials & waxing; we offer targeted treatments that are catered to your skin type while not breaking the bank or taking up all your free time! This is the perfect fit for me since I am a very upbeat and outgoing individual who wants to make others feel good while they enjoy their time. Aesthetics doesn’t have to be scary or intense; it’s exactly what you make of it and I want to reshape the industry in a positive way so I can make everyone feel comfortable when I have them as a client. I knew what I wanted ever since I was younger and I’m not going to stop until I reach all my goals.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe the tool thats helped me a lot is social media. This seems like an obvious answer for some, but I love showcasing my work and letting people know what I have to offer. I had someone tell me I was inspiring them to post more, and that really made me realize why I should not give up because you never know who is watching you! Whether it’s just a funny meme to relate to, or a thorough video showing a specific service, you can really build a strong community with others in the same field. Nowadays, it’s really easy to market yourself or another brand just through a photo, so it means the world to me when my friends or coworkers refer me to others because they can see exactly my take in this industry.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe what’s most helpful for success in any field is staying true to yourself. I know people who know exactly what career field they’ve wanted to enter ever since they were a child, and I also know people who still are figuring out exactly their interests. Both are totally okay which is why I always say to trust the process. You cannot put a time limit on discovering yourself because our spiritual journeys are all unique; in simple terms, whenever you have a desire to pursue a passion, I say you should follow your heart and try it because you never know what you will be good at or find interest in! It all starts from within; when you truly know yourself and put your heart into your passions, everything else eventually aligns and life will challenge you to become a better version of yourself more and more!
