We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lillie Young a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lillie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Entrepreneur – The process from idea to execution, I actually always had the idea to start my own beauty products but being quarantined pushed me into making flourish. I had the time and opportunity. I started doing my research on lipsticks, how to brand, I emailed different companies,. I had different companies mail me testers…some were good and some were bad. Once I received a good product I put it out on the market. The Red Lipstick Hustler Lipstick Collection was born.
Then even under quarantine I developed Queen Lillie Hair Growth Oil. I used the same practice as o did with my lipsticks, research etc. and it was birth.
Author – I now have four books under my belt. My first book my autobiography THE PURPLE CINDERELLA I wrote it and published it within 43 hours. My second book THE STORTY OF Kate & my third book THE RED LIPSTICK HUSTLER I wrote both of those working as a background doctor on the hit television show The Resident. I was on that show for 4 seasons. In between cuts and breaks I would write down some of it in my notes on my iPhone. My fourth book THE RED LIPSTICK HUSTLER Beauty Guide was birthed during the quarantine. I had to do a lot of research for this book. I put in nights of work. I went to beauty school PROGRESSIVE HAIR & NAIL ACADEMY in Shelby NC so I know something about the beauty industry. I applied what I learned into my book as well. It a beauty about hair, nails & skin. Everything you need to know from what to eat, natural ways to take care of your God given beauty and more. My books are published through Amazon; but can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart online.
I AM LILLIE YOUNG INC. umbrellas all of my brands.
Each book can be purchased at Amazon.com

My acting start as a young girl. At 16 I was approached to be in a hair. Commercial on BET. At 23 I was in Palmetto Styles Hair Magazine. I moved to Atlanta Oct. 2003 and I had the urge for acting again. I tried out for different castings. As time has gone by I have done several television shows, movies, videos, commercials and more. Atlanta is a land of opportunity. I was just recently cast for tv series WHITE ROSE. It is a joint collaboration between Jaido Studios (Kadé Hill) director and Two Fish Five Loaves Entertainment (John Estrada) co wrote and are executive producing. I’m excited about this venture because we start production 2023 Spring. I landed the role of Carmen Martinez in the White Rose Series. I met Kadé at a radio. She has seen my work and I received an email to play the role Carmen Martinez. I am ready to work with Kadé Hill and Two Fish Five Loaves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got in the industry by researching, attending networking events. I also would try my best to support whatever events that was going on because I knew a blessing would come from it. I would do charity work as well; it too was great for networking. I was never afraid to ask questions. Once you tell others you will be attending their functions you need to show up and show out. Your first impression must be your best. I was disciplined to do exact what I promised. It landed me in the right rooms, connections, in magazines and on the cover of magazines. Consistency is the key. Also a huge smile goes a long way. I stand inthis network, network is your net worth.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
This is a valuable lesson I had to learn. I had to unlearn not trusting others. My childhood taught me not trust people. But for me to make it in the industry I must trust someone it lets them know I am trustworthy. Old ways don’t open new doors. I had to let go and let God. Yes, there were some let downs but I kept building relationships and trust. God says if you build it they will come and it shall grow. Trust and loyalty goes hand in hand. Because I am loyal I have gained trust…
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When it comes to finding my business I used my own money. Once I started my business the money I made I put it back into the business. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy you will use your own capital. But it’s nothing wrong with getting help. But a vast majority of small businesses use their own money.
