We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lillian “grace” Gattis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lillian “Grace”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
The idea for my business started after an internship I did for audio engineering. I was one of four women in the entire studio and they didn’t teach me much due to the fact that I was a woman. From that moment on, I wanted to create a media company centered around female creatives. A couple years after that, I moved to Nashville. My new friends here encouraged me to start my business, despite not having a degree. So I took my 2 to 3 years of experience in con creation to the next level. I made a deal with my first client that if they bought my camera, I would give them six months of free social media work and they agreed from that moment on I was taking pictures for artist, shooting content for their upcoming singles, taking family photography as well as creative. Women who create media was born.
Lillian “Grace”, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I had stated before my journey into the client creation field started at an audio engineering internship. Their head of marketing, saw how hard-working I was and taught me everything I know about photography, videography, targeting audiences and digital ads. After that, I landed another internship that turned into a full-time job. Where I was running multiple clients social channels. I’m very good at building communities online around products and people. I love, capturing content that reflects a person or a brand. I’m very proud of the fact that I have created a woman’s centric content creation company. As an artist myself, I’m very proud of the fact that I understand what artists are looking for out of promoting their music and visual brand.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot several times in my life. From becoming a teenage addict and turning fully sober by the age of 22. To moving to Nashville as an engaged person to living 12 hours away from home, completely alone and financially independent. Despite all of the hardship that I’ve faced and gone through, I believe it’s given me tough skin in order to start my business to fight for female creatives and give them a safe space. As a musician, my art is about overcoming addiction and living with mental health disorders. So not only am I fighting for women to feel safe and creative fields and grow their talents. I’m helping others with my music by showing them who they can become if they heal and grow from their trauma.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for women who create media Is to be a one stop shop for female creatives. As of right now, we provide high-quality photography, videography, and social media services, But we would like to branch out into recording As well as teaching young girls stem skills to bridge the gap for women in stem, regardless, if that’s robotics, audio engineering, or rocket design. I am extremely passionate about bridging the gap for women and giving them a safe space to feel seen, heard, and learn.
