We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liliya Salira a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Liliya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My biggest passion in life is travel and spirituality. When I was 21, I came to Cody, Wyoming, as a Work and Travel student. It was back in 2010, and I was working at the historic Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel. At the end of the summer, our boss, John Darby, took us to Yellowstone, and I fell in love with that beautiful park. I was amazed by its canyon, waterfalls, mountains, and geysers. But even more, I was amazed by the American people who, back in 1872, recognized the importance of this place and protected it.
After that summer, I went back home, finished university, and returned to Cody in 2014 after winning a Green Card in the American Diversity Program, also known as the Green Card Lottery. I spent two years in Cody, working as a bartender at the Irma and going to college. During the summer seasons, I visited Yellowstone at least once a month. The park became my personal power spot. After finishing Northwest College, I moved to LA because my strong accent made it difficult to find an office job in Cody. I lived in LA, then in Alaska, but I kept coming back to Cody to visit my friends. Cody became my American hometown.
In 2022, I decided to move back to Cody. I had an online job with a Silicon Valley startup and picked up a part-time waitressing job at the Irma. It made sense because of the seasonal nature of the job—I could work in the summer and travel in the winter.
After the 2023 season, I traveled to my dream destination: Tibet. After Tibet, I spent two months traveling through China and Japan by myself. China was a pretty challenging place to travel due to the lack of English and the inability to use the payment methods we’re used to. During that trip, I realized how good I am at organizing and planning. I am a preparer!
When I came back home to Cody, I no longer had my online job, so I returned to waitressing. On my very first shift, I met a couple from Argentina who had come all the way to Cody to see Yellowstone. Unfortunately, Yellowstone’s East Entrance was closed for the winter. They only had a few days left and didn’t know what to do. November is a pretty uneventful month around here. Since the restaurant was slow, I grabbed my waitress book and created an itinerary for them. They were so grateful to have a direction, and the rest of their vacation wasn’t wasted.
That’s when I realized I was constantly helping people figure out where to go and what to do in Cody and the surrounding areas. I thought, wouldn’t it be cool if instead of asking a random waitress, people could hire someone to create an itinerary for them—or even buy one? I did some research and found out there wasn’t a service like that in our area. I decided to be that person, and that’s how Wyld Reset was born.
Liliya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Liliya Salira, and I’m a first-generation American. I came to the U.S. from Russia by myself in 2014 and now live in the beautiful Wyoming town of Cody. Surrounded by stunning nature and Western heritage, Cody is just an hour away from Yellowstone National Park.
It’s funny to think that, growing up, my grandfather and I loved watching Western movies together—it was our thing. I could only dream that one day I’d be working in a real Western saloon and have real cowboys as friends. Now, that’s my reality!
I earned an associate degree in Accounting from Northwest College and completed two master’s degrees—one in Management (from Russia) and another in Liberal Studies—at ASU. I’ve worked in accounting for Felix Chevy in LA and had an online job with a Silicon Valley startup. But despite my best efforts, I couldn’t stay in an office—it felt like torture. I’m a free spirit who loves to travel, explore nature, and seek out the world’s most powerful spots for spiritual growth.
My business, Wyld Reset, is a Yellowstone-based travel company. I create travel itineraries for individuals who want to explore Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks on their own. You can purchase itineraries directly from my website, www.wyldreset.com. I offer options for budget travelers, couples, and those with only one day to visit the park.
I’m currently working on new 2025 editions, which will be available in March 2025, while the 2024 editions are on sale now. I also create personalized itineraries for independent travelers. Here’s how it works: I send a questionnaire to understand your travel style, budget, and goals, then craft a custom itinerary tailored just for you.
My goal is to make trips to Yellowstone simple and stress-free. Personally, I dislike group tours—you’re stuck on someone else’s timeline and dealing with a lot of people. But many travelers choose them or avoid traveling altogether because they don’t have the time to research and prepare.
While there are great tour companies in Cody, my focus is on those who want to experience Yellowstone in their own way—whether it’s with loved ones or solo, connecting with nature and doing some soul-searching. I’m currently working on itineraries specifically for solo travelers and spiritual seekers because I know a few special spots…
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I grew up in the ruins of the Soviet Union, where my parents—and society in general—always prioritized hard skills. You had to be very good at your job and humble about it. Don’t stick out, don’t brag about yourself—that’s what I learned growing up.
But in America, networking and soft skills seem to be even more important factors for success.
When I started my company, I did everything myself—created the website, formed the LLC, got all the necessary insurance, and developed the products and services. But then I got stuck because I couldn’t overcome my fear of telling people about it. It almost felt like I was ashamed to promote myself. It took me some time to come out of that “closet.”
This is something I’ve had to unlearn. The U.S. is an amazing country built by people who weren’t afraid to change their lives and try new things. I’m working on shifting my mindset in that direction, and this interview is part of my training process.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My absolute favorite book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It’s a powerful story about freedom, creativity, and resilience. I think every entrepreneur should read this book. I’ve read it several times, and as I’ve grown, I’ve found something new and relevant to my life with each reading.
