We were lucky to catch up with Lilia Mata-Weimer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lilia, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Absolutely. I wish I had started earlier. When I was getting married I knew I wanted a Photo moment Backdrop. Eight years ago I could not find someone local in TX to do that. My wedding planner said he got it and not worry. He created something beautiful but not at all what my vision was. When I got married I moved back to AZ that was the moment to risk it all. But I had so mush experience in the corporate world that it sucked me back in with an appealing offer. I quickly forgot I no longer wanted that. Someone eventually is going to have the same idea so when you have it you need to jump and do it. I finally took a leap and it brought me to where I am now a women evolving her creativity to create new joyous moments.

Lilia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like so many woman when you have a child you are forced to rewrite your career. After coming back from maternity leave my husband and I decided it no longer made sense for us and I became a stay at home mom. After a few years I felt lost and wanted to go back to my creative side. I created paper flowers, painted and balloons soon became the thing. Initially I wanted to work with for someone just to get out of the house and soon it became just me creating what I enjoy. What sets me apart from the others is Me. I do not pretend to be what I am not. I am upfront with what I can and can not do. I truly have been fortunate with the sweetest clients.. They trust that I go above and beyond and that every job is personal to me.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being translucent on the services we offer in detail. Designing an event is customized one on one but I have always felt it is important for your client to feel comfortable on what that entails upfront. We have heard so many stories about many companies having unexpected hidden fees that at the end the customer is surprised and disappointed. The goal is to Always over deliver the customers expectations.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have had two clients at different times reach out to me wanting to book their events. Both were at a different booking process. Both decided not to proceed with us for their event. What was surprising and astonishing was their response. One said they came across my social media story and they were looking for someone younger with a youthful approach. The second one said they were going with a company who had younger girls. In my corporate career I used to be the younger woman thriving then some how years later I was I told I was too old. As a woman who married and had a child at a later stage in her life it felt life a stab. I became depressed wondering what I was doing that maybe this creativity should be left to a younger generation. Everywhere I looked everyone did seem younger and unrelatable to me. That’s when I realized I needed to not care and compare myself to anyone. I have done things in my life when they felt right and this was it. I am an older woman with experience that has something to offer humbleness, experience and creativity. Age is a thing of the past.
