Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lila J Wohlwend. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Lila J thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?

Traditional school taught me that I wasn’t going to learn anything about business, investing, or money in school. My financial education came after college, going to different seminars and events. All I could think was, “why aren’t we teaching these things to our kids in school?” This is one of the main reasons I chose to homeschool – to give my kids a real-world education. Both of my kids started investing at young ages, the oldest became a millionaire before he could drive, and they will never have to be dependent on a job. We now teach other kids and their families, so people can have the financial freedom, time freedom, and location freedom they desire!

Lila J, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My husband and I started out sleeping on a mattress on a warehouse floor after we got out of college. That’s when I started my “real education.” What we learned allowed us to become financially free before we were 30 years old. I believe everyone needs to have a good financial education. They question is: who do you have to be and what do you need to do to have everything you want out of life? My entire family hosts the Real Power Family Radio Show, which is available on many radio stations as well as almost every podcast app. We teach families how to become financially free, so they can have the freedom to go where they want, when they want, with whomever they want. Our website: www.RealPowerFamily.com offers some free education and links to our radio show as well as offers different levels of membership, so people and their families can choose how to learn more from our family. Our main goal: to make the world a better place.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

In school I could get A’s, and teachers always told me how smart I was and what a good student I was. I never felt smart, and it wasn’t until I met my husband in college that I realized why. I was good at memorizing information and regurgitating it on a test. That didn’t mean I was understanding or learning the information. I couldn’t apply the lessons except to answer questions on a test. I have had to “unlearn” the habit of memorizing and work to truly understand lessons, so I could excel in the world.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I went to college with the intention of going to medical school. After working in a hospital and seeing what the industry was like, I realize that was NOT the path for me. I loved medicine and helping people, but there were too many flaws in the system for me to want to work there. After getting financially educated, I ended up being a real estate investor and running a property management company. After homeschooling kids and both of those kids choosing to invest at early ages (they are both still teenagers), I realized I have a passion for teaching kids about business, money, and investing.
