We were lucky to catch up with Lil Flex recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lil Flex , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I personally handle all my social media outlets that I’m available on. I’ve always taken it upon myself to keep up and create post. I do my best to reach out and follow up with fans and supporters whether it be through DM’s or post I try to be consistent as possible. I feel that it’s a better approach to handle your socials by yourself and keep things organic as possible. Ads are great for promoting a product but also come with a lot of non sense traffic so it can be a little bit of a back and forth battle to find the real people you’re trying to reach. Any advice I would have for now is to control as much of your pages as you can until your growth outweighs those options and you need a bigger team.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My names Lil Flex I’m a hip-hop artist from Indianapolis, IN. I started making music with a group of friends around 2017 and been paving my path ever since. I refer to my brand, movement, and label as “3Seveteen” “3Seventeen Ent.”. It represents the area code in Indianapolis. A lot of times you’ll simply hear “3-1-7”. You can hear it on my music and you can see it on my merchandise. I take a lot of pride in being from Indy we have a lot of history but also haven’t had huge market for Artist success per say even though we are growing. I’ve been making my own music and merch for a few years now and have a little bit of a local audience but my biggest goal has been to expand my audience and work on getting new music out. I’ve done quite a bit of traveling in the Midwest in 2023 and plan on looking for some new crowds going into 2024!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I’ve always worked a day job and put what I can invest into my music and brand from that. I’ve also had part time jobs, side gigs, and what I can pull in from merchandise always helps. I’ve been lucky to make some money from performances or tickets sales as well. So honestly I’ve never had a huge budget or investor. It’s been me and the movement trying to be independent as possible.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my biggest factor as far as reputation and what has helped would be just being myself and the years I’ve put in with the local community and scene. Those that know me know I’m genuine and reliable as possible when it comes to being apart of an event or trying to help out where I can. I want to see the people around me win and I do my best to be a leader or offer a hand when needed.
