We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lightskin Bobby Sweeting a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lightskin Bobby , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew I wanted to do music as a profession when I was 2years old and I saw the response from my family when I would dance and sing in front of them. The feeling it gave me still runs deep in my soul today and I believe why it was inevitable for me to become who I am today. Watching Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Marques Houston and immature, Bobby Brown and New Edition; all the way to singing Usher Raymond songs in talent shows and winning gave me the confirmation that being a artist and performing was my calling.

Lightskin Bobby , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I got into the industry first in 2010-2011 with a group that I was the lead singer in called Street Runnas we all were affiliated with someone in the music industry at that time with G-Flyy having a baby with Cee-Lo Green’s oldest daughter, DP step dad being the rapper V.I.C. “Get Silly” and “Wobble” and myself having two cousins in the rap group Travis Porter so we used that motivation to do open mics all over Ga until we got recognized by Island Def Jam records in 2011. Unfortunately my group members did not show up to the meeting and decided to sign to Ceelo Green and I became solo once again. I didn’t record again until 2013 and wouldn’t release a project professionally until 2017. Under the name Breyon FPMG which stood for 4Bidden Pleasure Music Group and Breyon being my government name I kept this name until 2018 when I dropped my debut album Lightskin Bobby which I introduced to the world October 2018. Since then I have dropped 4albums including Worldwide in 2019, Last of a Dying Breed in 2020 and Worldwide 2 Dreamteam Edition in January 2021 along with my LSB merch and calendar.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by just being myself and posting daily content including me working a regular a job when I first started posting, to uploading shows where I’m performing to doing shoutout for shoutout where you basically show women that have a big following love on your page just to cross promote as well as song challenges where I give the winner a price at the end of the competition. I always show people what I have going on whether it’s music or my personal life so they can feel that I am a real person that is naturally being myself and sharing it with you day by day. I feel like the more open you are and transparent the more your fans will interact back with you.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Well back in December 2015 I had just returned to Atlanta from doing my first live show in Miami for art Basel and receiving the name Lightskin Bobby I tore my ACL playing basketball in the gym and I was crushed because around this time I had some many opportunities to do more shows and a real promo run but I was forced to stay home and recover and rehabilitate until I could walk again and I did that for about a month and as soon as I got the okay from my doctor I went to start back performing and my knee wasn’t 100 percent but I pushed myself to perform because that’s how bad I wanted it. I got through the performance and cried when I got home because how sore I was after but to this day I never regretted doing the performance because it showed I wasn’t going to let anything get in my way while I was pursuing my dream and it’s a feeling that still hasn’t left me.
