Lidia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
When I was 12, I sang in front of a large public for the first time. From that moment on, I was the school singer represententative, and I had a lot of support from my parents at the same time. Especially from my mom´s side, who wanted me to pursue an artistic career, but I tought this was never the right path to achieve either prestige or stability.
So I changed direction and chose to pursue a scientific career instead. I did my master and PhD in sciences and it was only after that, that singing came back into my life. At first, I blamed myself for not following my intuition, for having wasted time and doing something that was not my purpuse, but later on I understood that things happen at the right moment in time.
During my career as a scientist, I planted many seeds that would shape the artist that came after that. My song writting integrates depth and my own healing process that otherwise wouldn´t have been possible if I haven´t gone through the life experiences that shaped the current version of me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Brazilian artist based in Portugal with a background in science and a deep curiosity about the human mind. A few years ago, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that has led me to become a singer, songwritter, a voice activation and a stress and burnout coach.
From an early age, I demonstrated a keen interest in understanding human behavior. My inquisitive mind led me to delve into self-help books as a child, and I was always driven to comprehend why people behave the way they do. This curiosity ultimately led me to pursue a scientific education. Alongside my education, I had a strong interest in music and art and despite having an innate talent, I have never considered it as a serious path to follow.
After dedicating a significant part of my life to scientific studies, I reached a turning point and realized that, while science provided valuable answers, unraveling complex mysteries, there was more to life than just empirical facts.
It was when I moved to Portugal that the sparkle of music was lit up again. I felt a huge urge to express my authentic self through my voice and by doing that my music path has reopened. I started not only to sing back again, but also to write my own songs.
Currently, my musical endevours encompass a diverse range of transformative experiences. Whether performing solo or with other musicians, my concerts offer a unique blend of medicine songs in three languages, creating a powerful and emotive live performance that guides listeners on an inner journey.
Through the use of instruments like the guitar, drums, and rattles, I combine forest-inspired sounds with vocal melodies that connect individuals to their emotions and inner nature. Additionally, I conduct sound journeys designed to facilitate self-discovery, emotional release, and stress relief through a variety of instruments, including singing bowls, gongs, and native flutes.
Besides my concerts, I also lead women circles, creating a safe space for women to reclaim their power and express themselves through meditation, journaling, and voice activation. My voice activation sessions aim to empower individuals to reconnect with their inner selves and communicate effectively, fostering emotional elevation and gratitude.
For me, what makes this journey of becoming an artist so special is that my music reflects the deeper layers of my inner being. It doesn´t see the science, the artist, or nature as separate. It tells a story of experiences and emotions that are shared across different human beings, nationalities, and cultures. A story that brings us back to the idea that we are all interconnected.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I believe that in whatever you do, if you have clarity in what your purpose is, you can more easily become more resilient, with the ups and downs of your creative journey. For me, my biggest desire is to create more awareness around the importance of how music can support our healing and transformational processes. I truly believe that with music we can connect our hearts and minds and lead a more sustainable and authentic lifestyle.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Coming from a strong scientific background, art for me is perceived as most authentic expression of my inner being. In my art is where my emotions are expressed and where I feel I can be myself without fear of judgment by others. WIthin my art, I can go from concrete to abstract, from the matter to the vague, without anything having to make sense or offer a determined explanation based on societal rules. My art represents the ultimate expression of freedom.
