We recently connected with Libra and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Libra, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
“Detroit Famous,” my third project, has been the most meaningful endeavor so far! The title itself is self-acclaimed and distinctly represents our culture here in the city. We believe we’re all celebrities, and you can’t tell us otherwise.
The album is executive-produced by Jerry Parker and features some of the most prominent women in the music of Detroit right now. Rappers K.Lajuan, Taylor Bentley, Rocky Badd, and singers Biance’ Badd, and Haile’ all have given such a big part of themselves to the music industry. The creation of this album emerged from my new management and the decision to scrap “Reckless,” a mixtape I was assembling from random songs I hadn’t released during my last two albums. I was determined to further define my “sound” with this project and we did exactly that.
On this album, you will hear upbeat tempos and diverse songwriting approaches, including storytelling and increased vulnerability. I even experiment with rap-singing styles, and you may hear some raps from Libra in the future.

Libra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Libra is a grind now-glow later type of star. Detroit rooted, obviously Libra balanced and boss-minded. I’m a Grammy dreamer with a natural healer’s heart building my empire brick by brick. As an entrepreneur and 9 to 5 princess, I work hard and hustle smarter. I got into the music industry expressing myself and wanting a quality product. I bounced from studio to studio and started working with producers and engineers on my sound in 2015. I aimed to be authentic and not cheap with my gift. I knew it would be hard pursuing music full time but I’m enjoying the journey of entrepreneurship.
This discipline it takes to me is all up to how far you want to go. I work on my craft daily, but I also understand the importance of being mentally and financially stable. During the process of Detroit Famous, I prioritized separating myself from my older self. I only worked on completing this album and dedicated my time to the studio. I was very strict with what I did in my free time.
I also provide as an artist music features, songwriting, and creative direction for clients. The time I spent working on my three albums has taught me what it takes to complete a project, work with people, and how execute goals without a team. These very things I provide when working with clients have been helpful to the process.
I am most proud of the confidence I have built through my hard work and still building. There’s no manual of right and wrong In this industry just results and longevity and I am determined to have both. I want my fans to grow with me as I intend to make music for the rest of my life.

As an artist, I also offer music features, songwriting, and creative direction for clients. The time I spent working on my three albums taught me the skills needed to complete a project, collaborate effectively, and achieve goals independently. These same skills have been beneficial when working with clients.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
It is about the journey, not the destination. At the beginning of my career, I imagined my music success story would be being signed to a label and them “saving me.” When in reality, there’s no one coming to save me. My life is what I make it, and whatever I want is within my reach with research and hard work.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The resource I wish I had known about at the beginning of my career, I’m realizing, is the time! It’s never too late to work on something new or continue to work on a goal. Sticking to something by doing just a little a day or prioritizing a time in the week for a vocal goal or studio time can get you so far if you just do it. Waiting for the perfect time or thinking there is something that is just going to happen isn’t very beneficial, in my opinion.
