We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Libny Uceta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Libny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
If had to say best thing my mother did was showing me not give up. Being self-taught at times gets the best of you, I remember vividly crying because i just did know how to do certain techniques or wasn’t getting any new clients, but i kept working, learning and most of all practicing. I didn’t give up on my dreams and i wont.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey there!
-My name is Libny, i am the owner of Lainey’s Sweets. I specialize in custom cakes and other Caribbean desserts such as tres leches and Flan. My creativity is what sets me apart from others bakers, i like to think out of the box when it comes down to the design and make you event or special day unique.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly, word of mouth. I always make sure my clients are happy with their cakes, specially when it comes down to the design and flavors and because of that the referrals keep coming.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Not every client its a good client. I remember at the beginning i use to take every single cake order just because i wanted to show i could it, i wanted to show my potencial and my work. Now looking back it, all i can do is laugh because its part of the journey but oh boy was in for a treat!
