Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liberty Dill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Liberty, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I was 16 years old, having a complete meltdown to my parents in the living room after school one day about how I felt lost, and was certain I didn’t want to go to college for a career I didn’t love but knew was a safe option. As I stood at my parents in hysterics expressing how “I just want to be a photographer” thinking they wouldn’t be satisfied with my choice of wanting to be an artist for a living, I was pleasantly surprised when they had my full support. When the pressure of perusing a typical college career was off the table, I felt 10 times lighter and wanted to begin my business right away. I began reaching out to wedding venues in my town, not to photograph, but to wait tables, help set up, assist in any form related to weddings. I wanted to see how to work flow of weddings was at a venue so I could better understand what it meant to be a wedding photographer. Over the next year, I washed dishes, set up chairs, coordinated ceremonies, and served dinner at venues till finally in 2018 I shot my very first wedding. So my first dollar/ client was not with my camera, but helped get my foot in the door in the wedding industry.

Liberty, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Liberty & I am a 23 year old wedding photograph photographer covering al of California!
Growing up, I always had a major love for the arts, my mom was a painter and owned a pottery studio, I loved to draw and paint, but all this art and creation eventually led me to a camera.
As I started my photography journey all I knew was that I wanted to photograph love, love between a couple, love between parent and child, anything that involved love.
My love for love, grew into what is now Liberty Photography, where I am so blessed to be a full time wedding and portrait photographer providing wedding day coverage and milestone sessions for any important moment in life!
What sets me apart? My clients are my friends, I have their absolute best interest at all times. During weddings I grow so close to these families. I get emotional watching their families grow and having the honor of capturing it all!
It is so hard to pin point what I am most proud of, honestly I am so proud and honored of all the support and trust I have gained over the years. I am proud of myself for not giving up in such a competitive field.
To my future clients, it is an honor to photograph you in this stage in your life, and I cannot wait to capture all the emotions, I strive for my work to feel like you , I do my best to avoid trends and just stick to embracing who you are!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Lots and Lots of work. I had one camera that was gifted to me by my father, I shot weddings over the year for little to nothing…. $50, $250, $175. Over and over and over until finally I saved up enough for two camera bodies and repeated the cycle at $350, $500, $475 ect. Eventually this paid off in building and perfecting a portfolio but also teaching me that less equipment is more if you know how to use all your equipment to the best of your ability.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I shockingly love INSTAGRAM…. I am constantly shocked about how many of my clients are from instagram! I couldn’t even tell you what I am doing right.
