We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liberty Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Liberty, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
i have always tried by best to be flexible in my work. when it comes to photography i want to be able to do anything and everything i possibly can in my field. as a model, i have met many photographers who dont know how to properly photograph and edit me, i never want someone else to go through that. i work very hard to learn how to work with people of all body types, colorings, and also different style of photography! i am always learn how to be better at portraits, editorial work, event photography, concert photography, and more!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I come from a very creative family. All of my siblings have always been interested in art of all kinds, but photography and modeling stuck the most for me. My oldest sister paved the way for me in the industry which helped me learn what to do, and what not to do. Through my teenage years I used modeling/photography to express myself and become more comfortable with myself. Since then I have done my best to help others do the same thing through photoshoots. I also work with multiple brands to create content for their products and boost marketing potential.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media has gone through alot… I spent years learning what people liked to see on instagram, and what i enjoy posting. it can get pretty difficult sometimes because my personal page is a personal page, but is also my portfolio… Sometimes I dont post photos from a memorable event because the quality isn’t good or my audience wont like it. That can be hard sometimes but I’ve learned that at the end of the day, its my page and im the one who looks at the posts the most. About a year ago I started a business page for my photography. I have alot of photos to post and it gets overwhelming to post, but looking at other business pages i learned that business pages should post between every 3/4 days, no less and no more. You want to post only quality images that best represent what you do. This way people see your best work often enough to remember but not too often to be annoying. Also learning about the medias algorithm is the biggest key to getting engagement.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Looking back at my work and it being better than I expected to be is the best feeling in the world. It is the ultimate feeling of success and motivates me to go farther in my work. Also, seeing my growth over a period of time. My photography has gotten drastically better over the last few years and there is nothing better than knowing you’re always going uphill.
