Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Libby Perrington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Libby, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and all in God’s timing. However, one thing I do wish is that I would have learned the lesson of consistency sooner. I think when you’re young, you have all these ideas and your driven, you get stuck in the idea that you have to have MASSIVE action all the time. I got stuck in this wheel of thinking I ALWAYS had to be doing something big, but in reality if i would have just continued to show up doing the basics, I think I would be a lot further in my career than what I am now. However with that said, the success that i am striving for now, i wouldn’t have been able to handle at a younger age. There were certain life lessons i needed to learn to be able to get to the next level. I think that applies to all areas in life not just running a business, you don’t know what you don’t know.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I’m Libby, I’m 26 and I’m a podcaster, motivational speaker, content creator, life coach and my newest adventure, a personal stylist. I got into each of these categories of business all at different times in my life. I started off with content creation about seven years ago. I was part of a network marketing company at the time and truly fell in love with the social media space as a whole. I started doing Facebook lives all the time, which then transitioned into Instagram stories, which then lead to the podcast. i have always loved being on “stage” and public speaking. I remember i spoke on stage for the first time when i was a sophomore in high school and just loved every second of it. Being in the social media space for so long i have really seen content creation evolve and shift into something far bigger than i ever imagined which is incredible.
The podcast was something I had thought on for a few years before I finally did it. I had let this idea in my head take over. I kept thinking “you are not smart enough to figure out how to start a podcast, don’t even start” and i allowed that mindset to keep me stuck for a long time. Then one day I just said you know what that’s actually not true I can figure this out. And I did. I think 90% of the time we choose not to do something for the fear of not knowing how to do it but if we were to actually sit down and TRY, most of the time you can figure it out.
Now my journey to becoming a life coach was much different. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I knew that I wanted to help people show up and walk in their God given purpose, to cheer others on. I had no idea what the title of that was. After chatting with my friends Stef and Heather I realized that is EXACTLY what a life coach is. Heather had started her own life coaching academy, Atmana, so I applied and got accepted. This is where that same “you’re not smart enough” trap came back into my head. I had one toe into this for months before I finally said enough is enough I’m wasting this gift that God has given me I need to show up for myself and for others. So i put my head down, finished the program and started taking clients.
My newest adventure of being a personal stylist still makes me giggle when i tell people thats what i do. I had AWFUL style in my early 20’s. Like dressed as if i was a 50 year old mom. It was horrible, But i read in a book somewhere about showing up and always looking your best because you never know who you could run into. SO i started to care a little more but it really didn’t take flight until i started working at the schools. For a year I worked at a middle school as the dean of students. I was surrounded by 6th – 8th graders. And what i saw made me sad. I saw girls wearing close to nothing, having no idea of resect for their bodies. I thought, if i can influence them enough to at least cover SOMETHING up then I win. I started to put a lot of effort into my outfits each day. About 3 weeks into the school year i had a group of 6th grade girls say “Ms.P you should start to make a tiktok of your OOTD everyday that would be so cool” so i did. Now over a year and a half later i still do my OOTD which has gained a lot of traffic on my tiktok page. It wasn’t until recently that i thought, maybe just maybe i could post that i would pick outfits out for other people. I’m only a few weeks into this and i’m having a blast.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Keep showing up. Keep showing up daily. If you are in the content creation / influencer space, people want to see YOU. People aren’t following you because of the brands you’re working with, people are following you because of who you are as a person. And even if you only have 2,000 – 5,000 followers right now, make sure the content your posting is authentic. Here’s why, the bigger you get, the harder it will be to put up that front. IF you started posting fitness content because it was “on tread” but you actually hate going to the gym, guess what when you land a big brand deal it wont matter because it’s not what truly makes you happy. Find the things that really make you happy and your passionate about and run with those. Don’t try to do things just because everyone else is doing it.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I think I could write a list of 100 books that have made an impact for me. The first that comes to mind is The success principals by Jack Canfield. I read it for the first time in January and i keep going back to it weekly to look at my notes. I plan to buy a new copy every year and re-read it in January, knowing that each time I read it i will take away something new. Another one is The Universe has your back by Gabby Bernstein. Talk about a mindset shift.
