We were lucky to catch up with Libby Levin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Libby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve completed many meaningful projects in my time as a photographer. My personal belief is that professional photography should not be a luxury and EVEYONE deserves access to high quality photos of their loved ones. Over the years, I have worked a 9-5 job in order to stand by my belief and be able to provide my photography without the mind-boggling prices. Being able to work with clients and help them immortalize their special needs event is the most important thing to me. Whether that be a senior portrait photo shoot for someone graduating high school or a photo shoot for a geriatric dog and his family, I love being a part of these important moments and meaningful projects.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a creative soul. I do everything under the sun from painting to knitting, but my heart lies with photography. The ability to capture the feeling and immortalize it is something I’m extremely lucky to possess. From a young age, I was taking photos of the world around me and honing my skills. No one in my family was surprised when I started my photography business and want to keep my prices low. I have a true heart for others and it is important to me that professional photography be available for everyone, regardless of their economic status. I’m an extremely upbeat, positive person who loves to capture candid moments.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
This question hits home for me. The lesson I had to unlearn was “all professional photographers have to either go to school for it or apprentice under other people.” This is not at all the case. As a self-taught photographer, there have been times I have worked with classically trained and educated photographers. If you lay my photos out next to my coworkers – you would barely be able to assign who took the photos. My experience in trial and error since a young age has given me about the same amount of knowledge as someone who went to school for photography. All of this to say: you can do anything you put your mind to.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots I made in life was transitioning from college to “the real world.” I went from having time in between classes for photo shoots and editing to having to purposely set aside time. Being intentional with my time was a major change for me and it allowed me to learn prioritize my photography.
