We were lucky to catch up with Libby Hoffmann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Libby, thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
A few years ago, I received one of the best compliments of my career. One of my first clients inside my signature program, Nurture by Nature, said she found a tree on her weekly walk that reminds her of me. It may seem like a strange compliment to you, but it brought happy tears to my eyes.
My client’s connection made me emotional because when I was a little girl, the trees were some of my best friends and fiercest role models. The Apple tree was my reading buddy. The stand of Chestnuts was my audience. The brilliant Maple was my muse.

As I grew older, like many young adults, I let my awe and reverence for the natural world dwindle. I let the modern world’s expectations overshadow the simplicity of my youth. I put my dreams to bed.
Then, six years ago, I founded Moderne Homemaker and started dreaming again. I renewed my passion for connecting with the earth and with myself. As I turned my attention to growing myself in order to grow my business, I saw how important my relationship with Mother Nature is for my wellbeing, and how it positively affects everyone around me.
I deepened the trust I have in myself as I renewed my faith in the trees. I remembered that for me, trees are shining examples of resilience. They are excellent listeners and have nothing to prove. They are naturally strong and beautiful. They always take their time and move gracefully through change.
I saw clearly again how trees breathe the world, in and out, and simply take up the space they were created for. And I reflected this truth in the Moderne Homemaker mission statement to “Make Your Soul At Home.” If someone had tried to show me the life I lead now at the start of my business, I wouldn’t have believed it, but it’s a welcome surprise to be compared to a tree.
Through my entrepreneurial journey, I have renewed my curiosity and childlike wonder, and inspired others to do the same. As I’ve reclaimed my space, stretched my “branches” and grown to trust my own strength, I have empowered all different kinds of women to claim their uniqueness and thrive as themselves too. I have continually chosen the simple truth of who I am and who I was created to be. The trees were my teachers and now I am honored to be a mirror of their limitless wisdom.
This life of service and connection is such a gift. I am beyond grateful to be leading from my heart, guiding others home to themselves, and leaning into the power of Mother Nature’s example. If there are things that your soul desires, no matter how silly they may seem to others, I hope you don’t spend another day moving away from it.
Don’t waste any more energy on outside opinions or what it “looks like” to other people. Center yourself in love and root into your truth. Stop finding excuses, and start creating the life you dreamed of when your eyes were still filled with wonder.
Believe that your life can be fulfilling simply by coming home to yourself. Just like the trees, and that client who recognized me in them, remember that you are an integral part of Creation. You are worthy. Claim your place.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
You probably know me as Libby, but my real name is a little bit of a story. IYKYK. I’m an Aquarius married to a Taurus, and Mama to two boys, a dozen houseplant babies, two cats and a scruffy rescue pup. I was born and raised in the Appalachian hills and I carry reverence for the land and original caretakers wherever my wondering takes me.
For a large portion of my adult life, I lost myself in the hustle. I became a busy career woman, a good suburban wife, and then a mother. All the boxes were ticked, but I still felt empty. I sensed the stirrings inside for something different, but I wasn’t yet brave enough to trust my own knowing. Deep within I longed for a purpose filled life, on my own terms, but I didn’t know where to begin.
Then in 2018, I found the Human Design System and realized why I felt so lost. As a 2/4 Emotional Projector, success looks different for me. I learned that my sensitivity, unique insight, and intuition are my greatest assets not liabilities.
Through my devotion to self discovery and personal development, I was able to let go of the surface level strategies that are not in alignment with who I really am. I deepened into self care more than ever. I grew my capacity for presence and joy in all my relationships— at home with my kids and my partner first. And so, the Moderne Homemaker movement was born.
Moderne Homemaking is about becoming limitless— in your ability to honor your individual strength and wisdom, while also bringing your unique self to the collective table for the good of everyone. After working with hundreds of women and families over the last six years, through holistic wellness and as a birth doula, my passion for soul level self care using the tool of Human Design has only been solidified.
My mission is to help you feel connected to your purpose and experience authentic joy— within motherhood and beyond. I guide you away from overdoing and endless comparison, toward being deeply present to receive the abundance available within your own life. You get to discover who YOU are at a soul level, so you can align with the nourishment that is correct for your unique journey.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes! The Antiracist Business Book by Trudi Lebron. The Moderne Homemaker community supports radical self love, wholeness, and freedom for ALL. We stand against all forms of unjust discrimination and denounce white supremacy. We consciously work to recognize and dismantle all toxic structures that exist within and outside ourselves, including racial and gender bias, so that we may elevate our highest potential, and bring forward our brightest light. The Antiracist Business Book helped validate and refine these business value statements. Lebron’s writing also gave me a fresh perspective and clarity on who I help and who I should be focused on reaching, as those two groups of people are not necessarily the same.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I self published my children’s book, We Are All Light, in spring of 2022, but my author journey began three years prior. It was pre-pandemic and I was high on a new found interest in spirituality and personal growth. Being someone who works with families and having two children myself, I was inspired to write a book that would introduce kids to human energetics, specifically through the Human Design System. I already knew the power of this knowledge, it just needed to be translated into kid-friendly language and an engaging format.
I started from scratch, with no funding or literary connections, just my passion and vision to empower children to understand and honor their uniqueness. I sketched a story board first, and then engaged an artist friend to bring my ideas to life. Over several months, I worked on the words and collaborated with her on the illustrations, page by page. The result was simple, but beautifully powerful. I thought it was ready and started planning the pre-sale release. Then the pandemic hit.
When the world shut down, I knew my dream of an in person book tour was impossible. Some of the gifts in my personal human design are waiting, gaining perspective over time and withstanding pressure, so that’s what I leaned into. I surrendered to the reality of it being the incorrect time for me to share this creation. The delay was disappointing but it did not discourage me. Like so much of the world, I paused my work and reevaluated my priorities. I chose to see the time passing not as a setback, but as a gift of extra time to reflect and refine.
Over the next year and a half, I took my time to rework, edit, and add to my creation. When it was complete for the second time, I was even happier and more proud of the final result. Through reliance on my natural strength and wisdom, and trust in divine timing, We Are All Light has been a wonderful success. Hardcover copies are now sold out for the second time, and are in pre-sale for a third printing. The extended timeline for my author journey became the biggest blessing, not just for me but for everyone my book touches.
