Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Libby Duffy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Libby, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I had been teaching yoga in my own business for 2 years before I allowed myself to see it as more than just a hobby. I started my business during the pandemic while I was unemployed thinking that it would just be a fun way to earn a little extra money while I looked for a 9-5 job. I didn’t allow myself to see it as something that could be sustainable.
Then one day during a shadow work session, specifically an inner teen work session, I realized that I was limiting myself. And my inner teen was mad about it. When I was a teenager, I firmly believed that I could do whatever I wanted with my life and that could be talking about shadow work and doing tarot readings. But as you get older, you either embrace that life or life beats you and you conform.
Thanks to what I learned growing up about money and career, I ended up conforming. And I ignored my inner teen for years. Eventually, all of her rage came out and it helped me embrace the coaching side of my business.
Since then, I’ve used shadow work to help my clients have the same breakthroughs and epiphanies that I had.
Libby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Libby! I’m a mindset coach that uses shadow work and intuition strengthening in order to help my clients create a life of awareness, abundance, and alignment.
I believe that the ideas and learned beliefs that are taught to us by our caregivers can create blocks inside of us. These blocks keep us from seeing what is truly possible. When we don’t see what is truly possible, we can’t receive all that is meant to be ours. Shadow work helps us to work through those blocks and create self- confidence, self-acceptance, and self-trust.
I lead my clients through shadow work exercises such as journaling, meditation, and tarot card readings. This can look a little different for everyone which is why my services are flexible and easy to do. I like to start with a tarot reading to get a baseline and to get a little insight from the universe, I then ask my client to give details on what they think is going on and then come up with a customized plan.
Shadow work is great for anxiety management and working through triggers that may come up during the day to day life. This leads us to finding our true selves, not what everyone wants us to be.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
A story.
If you’re going to talk about shadow work, you need to have gone through it and had that defining moment that sets you a part. You also need to be willing to talk about that story. If you can’t get vulnerable with your audience than it’s not going to work for you.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Connect with people.
Instagram and social media provides us with so many opportunities to connect with others. If you waste it by just posting, it’s going to be hard to grow clientele. If you reach out to people and build a connection, it works a lot better.
No cold DMs! Actually get to know people. People will chose to hire the people that they feel a connection to, not the people who pitch without anyone asking for it. Humans love connection from a biological standpoint, take the time to build it.
