We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lianna Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lianna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
This idea started while I was in college. I’ve always had a passion for flowers and felt like it they were one of the easier ways for me to express my emotions. I’ve been making floral arrangements for a year and decided to take it more serious this summer. In the beginning, I was very hesitant, but one day I decided to create a floral arrangement and remember the feeling of excitement. Shortly after posting on my socials, I received so much positive feed back. It was now time for me to show off my skills. Colorfulstems is much more than a floral business, it is a flower-based wellness brand rooted in the belief that nature and self care go hand in hand. At Colorfulstems, we offer more than just beautiful floral arrangements we create intentional experiences that nourish both the body and the mind. Our experience combine fresh, thoughtfully curated blooms with self-care elements such as self affirmation notes, self care prompts & journaling prompts, tools to encourage mindfulness, relaxation, and emotional well being. Whether it’s a Floral Reset Kit or a bouquet. We aim to bring beauty and balance into people’s lives, making flowers not just a gift, but a holistic moment of care.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
– I’m the founder of Colorfulstems, a flower-based wellness brand born from a deep love for nature, creativity, and emotional well-being. My journey started back in college not as a business venture, but as something purely personal. I didn’t know what I was doing at first, but I genuinely enjoyed making flower arrangements in my room. It became a way for me to unwind, express myself, and bring beauty into my everyday space. Over time, that small creative outlet turned into a true passion.
Eventually, I decided to take that passion seriously promoting my work, building my skills, and sharing my love for flowers with others. Now, I’m proud to say it’s grown into a meaningful brand that’s all about spreading joy, care, and color.
– At Colorfulstems, I offer much more than just beautiful floral arrangements we create intentional wellness experiences that nourish both the body and mind. Our work is rooted in the belief that nature and self-care go hand in hand.
– What makes Colorfulstems different is the heart and intention behind everything we do. Our brand combines the beauty of florals with the power of emotional wellness. Each product is more than just something to look at it’s a moment of connection, peace, and joy. I don’t just create arrangements we create feelings. Every bloom, color palette, and written affirmation is selected to spark happiness and encourage reflection.
– I’m proud of this journey from casually arranging flowers in my dorm room for fun, to building a brand that helps people reconnect with themselves through beauty and intention. I’m proud of every moment when someone receives our flowers and feels seen, cared for, and emotionally lifted. This isn’t just a business for me it’s a way to bless people with something real.
– what I would like people to know about my brand is that this is truly a passionate of mine. It has been a passion of mine for years creating floral arrangements are not just for the fun. It also brings me excitement brings me joy and it makes me feel so happy that when I hand off these arrangements or handoff any bouquet to the person who purchased them, I watch for the expression on their face, the excitement , the laughter, the joy, the tears. I’m just happy that I got to be the person to make them feel that way through my art.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
So far, my best source of new clients has honestly been through my personal network and word of mouth. Booking my first wedding and a floral event for a garden party came through people who had seen my work or knew me personally and believed in my passion.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to have everything figured out or be “perfect” before putting myself out there. In the beginning, I would doubt whether I was ready or if people would take me seriously. But over time, I realized that the most important thing is to believe in my vision and trust in the passion that drives me.
