Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liang Ge. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Liang, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Back in 2008, the photoblogging community was the essential way to showcase a person’s work. This was before Instagram Take Out (came into existence) and a web site was the way to go. I started seeing lots of photoblogs (a picture post, a day on template) and that was what intrigued me about photography. That’s when i started to pick up a camera and just shoot whatever I can document that particular day. It would be almost anything like cool landscapes, flowers, friends, animals, long exposures, etc. Eventually, what was mostly a hobby became quite serious and I had to dive into an area where I can excel, so I chose to focus on portraits, which led more into fashion. I think having a regular 9-5 job took up some time and I could have learned about other techniques in a more rapid pace, but I’m content with the path I took.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello! My name is Liang Ge and I’m a fashion/lifestyle photographer based out of Los Angeles, California. I’ve always been an artist due to my background in music, and I love being creative behind the camera for the past 10 years working in this industry. I’m incredibly lucky and humbled to be in this profession, it has served me well and I’ve met many other great creatives. My style is quite simple: I love the natural light in the outdoor setting. However, I also love studio and strobe lighting as well. For every shoot I go into, there is a vision and concept that I aim to achieve for my clients.
I always love feedback from my clients before delivering the final product. It provides me the opportunity to better myself and hone my craft to meet their vision take out (as well). I think it’s incredibly important that this element is met. Meeting the needs of my clients, in my opinion, will lead to a successful outcome for their product. And I’m always open to learning more and get out of my comfort zone to achieve those results!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I would say social media in general. Take Out (First of all). Most social media platforms are free and are word of mouth. Instagram in particular has boomed so much over the past decade. When I first moved Take Out (out) to LA, all I did was test with modeling agencies (agencies send me models, usually in development) to shoot in exchange for portfolio book update. Once I did a bunch of those tests, my book was updated and I regularly posted on Instagram to showcase my work. The more you post (usually your best photos), the more it gets circulated around social media and brands will start to notice. Maybe not a large brand, but a small business will approach you about a gig. So yes, I think social media is huge. Nowadays, reels gain even more exposure and engagement, which will drive traffic onto your Instagram page and potentially land you more clients.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I always send follow-up e-mails to my clients asking how they are doing, whether they will need new photos for their products, or simply just to say hi. More importantly, it’s maintaining the healthy relationship between my client and me that I value more. I want them to feel confident in hiring me knowing the product that I will be delivering meets and exceeds their expectations.
