We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liam Mahal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Liam, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Being an artist is all about taking risks, wanting and being willing to grow, is all about taking risks. It’s easier for one to stay in their comfort zone, why? Because that’s where they tend to feel the safest. Feeling safe creates the feeling of certainty and no one likes feeling uncertain. Taking that leap of faith and not knowing what may happen creates the space for anything being possible. As an artist, trying new sounds is taking risks, writing about what doesn’t get written about and pushing boundaries. Boundaries that others and society attempt to place on others. As a creative, you should never box yourself in and don’t let others put you in a box either.

Liam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an artist that first got into making music because of the older peers I was around. They brought me to the studio with them one day and ever since then I was always writing. Being younger and not realizing the way I was writing and seeing the growth in how I write and create now, I’ve realized my way of writing and putting things into words is different than the norm. I know where it comes from and why, I’m just grateful to continue to do right by it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The fact that I’m still here doing what I was always doing and continuously doing what I said I’ll always be doing, just doing it better, smarter, and stronger.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Two books of the top of my head that I would say showed me I wasn’t the “only one” thinking a certain way while reading was, “The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success” and “The Four Agreements”
