Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leyna Slivka. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Leyna, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
When I decided to officially start my social media marketing agency, I knew that securing my first client would be a significant milestone. With a background in social media management from working at a med spa in Arizona, I had a clear idea of which types of businesses could benefit from my expertise. I began my outreach by targeting similar businesses in the health and wellness space, those offering services I understood well and knew how to market effectively.
On the first day, I sat down, prepared with a list of businesses, and began my outreach. I approached each business with genuine enthusiasm, highlighting how I had helped build brand awareness and engagement in my previous role. One particular call stood out—a marketing director for a weight loss company who seemed intrigued by how I could apply the same strategies to elevate their online presence. We scheduled a follow-up meeting where I presented a more tailored plan, showing examples of my past work at med spas and how it could drive results for their business.
That very week, I had my first signed contract. I still remember the thrill of realizing that my business had officially earned its first dollar. It was a mix of excitement, relief, and validation that the leap I took into starting my own venture was worth it. That moment set the tone for what has since become Going Social Club, and it’s a memory I cherish as the start of something bigger.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Leyna, and my journey into social media marketing and content creation has been anything but linear, but that’s what makes it exciting! I started in pursing aesthetic nursing and worked at a local med spa, but I quickly found myself gravitating toward managing their social media. I was captivated by the power of storytelling through content and how effective it was in building brand awareness. Eventually, I transitioned into freelancing as a social media manager and UGC content creator, focusing on lifestyle and beauty brands.
That led me to where I am now, running my own marketing agency, Going Social Club. At Going Social Club, I help brands build their presence by creating strategic, engaging social media content that not only resonates with audiences but also grows their business. I work with a wide range of businesses, providing services like social media management, content creation, and strategy development.
What sets me apart is my genuine passion for helping businesses tell their stories authentically. I’ve been on both sides of the equation—working within a business and now as a partner helping them grow. I understand the unique challenges brands face in staying relevant and engaging, and I bring that insight to every project I work on. My approach is personalized, and I really take the time to understand my clients’ needs, ensuring that the strategies I create align with their goals.
I’m incredibly proud of how quickly I was able to grow my agency. Securing my first client within a day of outreach was a huge achievement, But it’s not like that everyday. It’s a testament to the power of persistence and the value I bring to the table. For anyone considering working with me or following my journey, the main thing I want them to know is that Going Social Club isn’t just about creating pretty content—it’s about building meaningful connections between brands and their audiences. Whether you’re looking to grow brand awareness, create impactful content, or strategize your social media presence, my goal is to help you and your brand succeed.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to be “always on” when it came to social media. As a social media manager and content creator, my work naturally blurs the line between personal and professional life. At first, I felt like I always needed to be plugged in—whether that meant constantly thinking about content creation or spending hours on social platforms, even during my downtime.
The reality is that this mentality led to burnout. I had to realize that just because social media is a huge part of my work, it doesn’t mean it should dominate every aspect of my life. I had to be mindful of setting boundaries, especially working from home where it’s easy to feel like you never truly “clock out.” One day I realized that I wasn’t spending enough time outdoors, and it was taking a toll on my well-being.
I’ve since learned how important it is to intentionally step away from the screen and prioritize time offline. It’s a process, but now I make a conscious effort to carve out time for myself, get outside, and do things that are completely unrelated to work. It’s been a game changer for my mental health and creativity. It’s a reminder that balance is crucial—even in a field as fast-paced and demanding as social media.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey of consistency, authenticity, and learning what resonates with people. It all started when I began posting content for fun in high school. At that time, I wasn’t focused on numbers or followers—I was just experimenting with different types of content and finding my voice. That passion carried over into my professional life when I started managing social media accounts for businesses and creating UGC content.
One of the biggest shifts in building my own audience happened when I leaned into my niche—beauty and lifestyle content. I started sharing more of what I genuinely loved, from skincare routines to simple makeup looks, and providing tips that my followers could easily incorporate into their own lives. Consistency was key, but so was staying authentic. I didn’t try to fit into trends that didn’t suit my personality or values, and that authenticity really helped me stand out.
For anyone starting to build their social media presence, my advice is:
1. Be Consistent: You don’t have to post every day, but showing up regularly keeps your audience engaged and helps you build a rhythm.
2. Find Your Niche: Focus on the content that feels true to you and that you enjoy creating. When you’re passionate about what you’re sharing, it shows and helps you connect with the right audience.
3. Engage with Your Audience: Social media is a two-way street. Respond to comments, ask questions, and genuinely interact with your followers. Building a community is just as important as building your content.
4. Quality Over Quantity: It’s tempting to chase after follower counts, but I’ve found that focusing on providing value to a smaller, engaged audience is far more rewarding.
5. Experiment and Adapt: Don’t be afraid to try new things! Social media is constantly evolving, so it’s important to experiment with different formats, styles, and topics to see what works best for you and your audience.
