Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lexy Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lexy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
One of the most unexpected problems in my creative journey is being diagnosed with an extremely rare and untreatable skin disease, Lichen Planus Pigmentosus. This disease has affected the skin on my face and neck – which is often in the forefront of the content that I enjoy sharing – beauty tips, skincare products, style and outfit inspiration. Having to watch the pigment on my face and neck get darker over time, has caused extreme distress and on many days, stifled my inspiration and motivation to create. I am currently on the path of mental healing and I am starting to embrace the skin journey that I am on. I have accepted my imperfections and have made a decision to allow the strength behind deciding to share my skin struggles with the world fuel my drive to create even more! There is a certain freedom that comes with being authentic to who you really are. For me, that means letting go of the need to be perfect and continue share my style inspiration with the world, celebrating my individuality and the beauty that lies in imperfection. I want to show others that our struggles do not define us; instead, they can be a source of strength and resilience.
As I navigate this journey, I’ve found that my experience with Lichen Planus Pigmentosus has opened up deeper conversations around beauty standards and the importance of self-acceptance. In a world that often promotes an unrealistic ideal of flawless skin, I believe it’s crucial to highlight the beauty of authenticity—an aspect that resonates with so many people. I want to inspire others to embrace their own skin stories, whatever they may be.
I’m excited to share beauty tips and outfit inspiration that go beyond the surface. My focus is now on finding products that work for my skin condition and sharing those insights, as well as tips for styling outfits that make me feel confident and comfortable. I want my content to reflect the real me—the one who faces challenges but continues to find joy in creativity and self-expression.

Lexy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
“Beautylicious Fashionista” was the initial name of my personal blog and marked the start of my blogging journey back in 2011. What began as a creative outlet quickly blossomed into a passion project, dedicated to sharing style inspiration through “outfit of the day” posts, along with fun beauty finds and tips. As my creative journey evolved, I expanded my content to include delicious food and drink recipes, aiming to inspire the everyday woman to create easy and flavorful dishes for her family. I fondly remember when I first started blogging; fashion and beauty blogs were just beginning to gain traction, and it was an exciting time to be part of that community.
Now with close to 8 Million views on my blog, which has since been affectionately shortened to “BeautyFash”, I still enjoy the creative storytelling that comes with long form content and showcasing to my audience.
Although the blogging landscape has shifted, with short-form content becoming increasingly popular, I still cherish my blog as a platform to express my voice and connect with others. These days, you can mostly find me on Instagram, where I authentically share my office style, fun weekend wardrobe, as well as stylish date night looks, all while still providing step-by-step tutorials for some of my most popular recipes. My mission is to empower the everyday woman to embrace her unique style with easy-to-wear trends and classic pieces, all while having fun in the process! I believe in inspiring others to find beauty in everything and to live a vibrant life filled with creativity and joy. Whether it’s through fashion, beauty, or culinary adventures, I’m here to encourage you to celebrate your individuality and express yourself boldly!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media presence has a lot to do with the faithful readers of my blog, BeautyFash.com. I have “day ones” who have been rocking with me from the beginning when I was propping my camera up on the trunk of my car to get my outfit of the day posts—way before Instagram Reels was a thing. There are loyal readers of my blog and Pinterest who have been trying my recipes and authentically engaging in the creative content that I share. One of the ways I was able to build an audience was by consistently blogging and sharing through all of the ups, downs, and trends that we have all seen over the years on social media. Building an audience takes time and effort. My advice for those who are just starting and would like to build an audience is to be authentic to who you are. When you are true to your voice and show up, your people will find you! That means having fun and creating when you have something inspiring to share.
It can be easy to get discouraged when there are creators going viral on the short-form content apps, whether by luck or a controversial topic. However, staying true to yourself and sharing with the audience of people you’d like to reach—whether that’s one person or a hundred—can make all the difference. You never know who you will inspire. Also, don’t get caught up in numbers or post performance. Your true voice should not be measured by how many clicks you receive; rather, it is an expression of your individuality and your journey. Remember that every follower or reader represents a real person who has chosen to connect with you. Celebrate those connections, no matter how small they may seem. Focus on building relationships, interacting with your audience, and responding to their needs and interests. Even the most popular influencers started with just a few followers, and through authenticity and perseverance, they grew their communities. Embrace the process, stay curious, and let your creativity shine. As you continue to engage genuinely, you’ll cultivate a vibrant online space that reflects not only your passions but also the warmth and encouragement of a supportive community.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Staying creative has helped me navigate my skin journey while battling my rare skin disease. My creative journey has gotten me through some tough times, reducing my bouts of depression, anxiety, and other negative emotions that come with the up and down journey of life. My goal is to cultivate creative confidence in my every day life. My mission is to also inspire those around me to cultivate their own creative confidence. Whether I am sharing with my family, friends, or audience on social media , I believe my authentic creative expression has the power to ignite the creative spark in others. I embrace that and create freely, in my own way.
I enjoy living an authentically creative life, finding ways to stay inspired and connected in a world that can often times feel HEAVY. It has been proven that people who stay creative can easily find new ideas to overcome difficulties. Creativity is essential for successful collaboration in all aspects of life – which is beneficial to building a community. Creative expression (in all forms!) can help people feel more connected to themselves and others. It can also improve mental health and self-esteem. Creative confidence can promote clarity and help people visualize solutions and improve their quality of life. Creativity can help people connect with others.
