We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lexie Samora. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lexie below.
Lexie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think being successful comes from determination, hard work, and genuine passion for your craft. Without a mixture of all three, burnout is extremely easy and more likely to happen. If you’re determined to do something you love, and have the hard work to accomplish that, success will follow. Whether that’s a service or a craft, people see that passion and hard work and want to see you succeed in your business. Speaking from experience, I can honestly say that when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. Currently, I work in the creative field of photography, but I’ve worked plenty of jobs that were not in a creative field and jobs I had no passion for. From retail, administrative management, and healthcare coordination I quickly learned I need a creative outlet. I could not be the kind of person who sits behind a desk all day because none of those jobs lasted. I was burnt out and exhausted so quickly from jobs where I honestly probably worked less than I currently do in my creative photography job. Sure Owning a business is more like working 24/7 But I would never have it any other way and I’m so lucky to be able to do what I currently do.
Lexie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Alexia but everyone calls me, Lexie. I am the owner and photographer for LexCreates. My photography focuses on real life, candid moments of love and memories. LexCreates is a photography brand specializing in intimate weddings, elopements, and couples. I’ve been a photographer for over five years now, and officially a business and active photographer in our New Mexico wedding industry for over three years now. I was one of those kids constantly asking for the newest point and shoot camera growing up and in college finally got my first DSLR camera which started this whole journey. In college, I was taking photos for anyone who would ask, some senior portraits, some family photos, really anything. After graduating from the university of New Mexico with a business degree, I got a business administrative job and quickly learned that I wanted to pursue photography full-time. Best decision I’ve ever made! I started LexCreates with the mindset of making peoples memories tangible. I strive for my photos to make you relive those moments captured, focusing on the candid love that was shown. A ton of my inspiration does come from movies and cinema. Making everyone’s unique, love story, their own movie magic romcom moment! Most people feel awkward taking photos, so I strive to make people feel like they are the main character (Spoiler alert! Because they ARE the Main characters in their love story). Whether that’s getting married on a mountain top, dancing in the rain, or sharing a slice of pizza i’m there to capture it all!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
It’s all about being personable! My clients truly become my best friends. I end up following them through major moments of their life and get to document every moment. From their proposal, to engagement, to their wedding, to their first baby, to family portraits down the road I’ve got to see literally every major milestone in their life. I get to do that by making every single session personable by knowing details about their life and who they are. Truly just becoming one of their friends! I make sure to keep track of my clients life that way when I see them for the next session I could ask them. How are they doing with this? How are they doing with that?! People can tell when you really truly care about their life and they will want to come back to you and support your art just like you are supporting their milestones. I think being a genuine person helps create that brand loyalty and keeps clients returning throughout the years.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word-of-mouth has definitely been the most effective marketing to build my clientele. I truly think no form of marketing is better than word-of-mouth. From the very beginning a lot of my clients were either relatives or close friends and from there they told a friend and it just multiplied after that. Finding a trusted photographer is hard so when someone you are close with tells you this photographer is amazing that’s going to be the person you want to work with whenever you get your own photos done. I found that giving each client an amazing experience gives them incentive to tell everyone else about it they send their people my way, I end up having plenty of weddings where I get to see past couples since they were the people that sent the next ones to me. It’s like a little reunion of all of my favorite clients!
