We recently connected with Lexie Chacon-Rios and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lexie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up, I was always more on the creative side. I would be drawing, painting, writing stories or giving my barbies hair transformations. Although I was always drawn to the arts, it wasn’t until my junior year of college that I really knew I wanted to pursue makeup as a career. After graduating college, I enrolled in Makeup Designory and began learning the skills as well as the business side of being a makeup artist. After a couple years of doing makeup, I decided to go back to school to get my cosmetology license and it was the best decision I could have ever made.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I specialize in cut, color, and bridal makeup. When it comes to haircutting and coloring, I love working with my clients natural hair texture and customizing each service to meet their specific needs. I take pride in really getting to know them, their lifestyle, and pain points in order to give them the hair of their dreams. As far as bridal makeup, I love to enhance my clients natural features and have them feel like themselves just elevated. My favorite part about doing weddings is the connection I make with the bride and her family / bridal party. Its always so much fun seeing them later on down the road whether it be catching up on social media or being able to do their hair and or makeup for other important moments in their life.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think building your social media is everlasting, so I’ve taken great care on what I choose to post. I’m still working on building my audience on FacesByLexie. The most important aspect is to be authentic to yourself and who your target audience is. Once you have figured out who your target audience is, start making posts that speak directly to them in order to start attracting your dream clientele. Also, pay attention to your engagement and don’t be afraid to engage with your clients. Comment on their pictures or slide into their DM’s so they know when you’re thinking about them.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to sit down with a client, listen to their hair goals and understand their vision, and apply my own unique style and experience to produce a tailor-made service for them is the best feeling. The expression on my client’s face at the first-look after we’ve finished is why I do what I do.
