We were lucky to catch up with Lexi Moon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lexi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
While exploring my passion for photography I discovered that I really enjoyed set building for my clients. Soon more people wanted to be photographed on the same sets so I came up with the idea for “the photobar”. I started by building a small set for my friends party where guests could come have me take their pictures. Then I began to get invited to different concerts and events in the city to build a custom set and capture the guests.
After a while I decided I wanted to do my very own event on a larger scale. I started by holding my own events at my home studio which I quickly realized was too small. So I mustered up the courage to pitch my idea to my favorite bar in the city (OurBar) and they loved it. For my first event I needed to show how serious I was about my craft. The theme was “denim and dranks” and my idea was to collect old denim cut it up and sew together a huge denim patchwork backdrop.
After weeks of friends bringing their old jeans and jackets and balling out in thrift stores my mom, sister and I were able to execute the vision flawlessly. The day was an absolute success, the best day ever honestly.

Lexi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I mainly shoot creative portraits and products. Photographing products allows me to work alone which is where I work the best because I’m pretty shy. However, being able to help someone execute their vision and bring their photoshoot ideas to life really brings out my friendly side. My clients love to come to me because I can make them feel comfortable and loosen up to get the best results. We dance and sing and sometimes have a cocktail. We can sit and talk if they need to. I am proud to create a space where people can vibe and be comfortable. I am very serious about my craft however I am not strict at all and I believe that’s what helps my brand the most. That, along with the fact that my client ls are able to leave happy and more confident than ever.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be able to open my own multimedia studio. With different sets and workspaces. I would also love to hold sessions where myself as well as other instructors can come help hungry creative learn more about their craft. I know a lot of people run to YouTube university for help but I was a very hand on learner and I know that most teachers other creatives are too.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I am actually still in the process of unlearning that there are no rules when it comes to your creativity. After graduating from art school with my bachelor’s in photography I was taught what my professors called “the right way” to be a photographer. But I have found what works for me and I am enjoying the journey a lot.
