Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lexi Mattiussi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lexi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I’ve always grown up to be very self dependent. I didn’t like working in groups, I didn’t like being bossed around or told what to do, I always loved having my freedom in what I can do. Some may say that I sound selfish or like a brat but I truly always found passion in what I can create by myself. I’m extremely happy to be my own business women. I get to be true to myself. I don’t wake up wishing I could do something else that would make me sad or depressed. I did have a regular job for awhile so I could save up to what i’m able to do today and I hated and loved it. I worked with kids and I always thought that’s what’d I wanted to do. I planned on going to a 4 year school to be able to become a Preschool Teacher, told everyone that was my plan until one day I got ahold of my grandmas camera. Ever since that day my whole life has changed for the better. I find art and peace in what I do. Although apart of me wishes I could still have the passion to be a teacher but society has changed that for me. Teaching isn’t what it used to be anymore.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Lexi, I’m 18 years old who just graduated from Lincoln High school with class of 23’. Ever since I was little I was the one in charge, I mean I had a little sister who was wrapped around my finger since we were so close in age. I always felt like the leader and never really sat with just one crew at a time. I always appreciated my alone time and never took it for granted. starting 6th grade was scary for me. I was a bigger girl in a non diverse school. It was hard for me, I struggled with school everyday until Junior year when I got transferred to Lincoln. Best 2 years of my life was going there. Met amazing teachers who helped me grow out to be the person I am today. Not everyone gets lucky enough to be able to connect with their teachers on that level but I was. In junior year I was panicking because this is the year where you really got to get it together otherwise outsiders make it seem like you just ruined your life. Panic rushed through me as I didn’t know what to do after high school. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher but this new love for photography really took ahold of me. I explained to one of my favorite teachers about this and how I couldn’t stop having panic attacks over this situation whenever it got brought up and he looked at me and said “Do something that you would do for free, doesn’t matter what but if someone stopped you and asked you to do it for $0 you would.” First thing that popped up in my head was photography. All my life I got pressured to go to college and “suffer” another 4 years when really what I wanted to do and loved doing it was right in front of me. My photography tells stories in what I do, what i’ve been through, how I survived. I’m most proud of surviving such big life steps. It’s something that will always stick with me

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m very lucky I have an amazing support system. My parents helped me a lot by supplying the resources I need to use to be able to edit photos, take the photos, transport the photos. They were life savers!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
That it’s perfectly okay to know have thousands of clients right away and that you need to ask your peers to model for you.
