We recently connected with Lex Deveaux and have shared our conversation below.
Lex , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My very first EP “Free” was very meaningful to me. The reason being, is because I had so much self doubt over the years, and I was just so afraid to release my music.. This EP was personal because I felt free to do what I wanted to do. I was free to speak my mind, sing my personal thoughts, and finally release music and be confident within my craft. I was free of depression, free of letting my mind psych me out. Free of anxiety. Although, I’m still a work in progress, my EP was the first step to me having a break through. This EP was very personal.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been singing since a young child. I was born in Bronx NY, and at the age of 8 my Family, and I moved to Tampa. My Mom made sure that she kept me in performing arts schools for elementary, middle, and HS. After graduating, I sang with a couple of bands around the Tampa bay area. I would sing at weddings, funerals, birthday celebrations, and different night clubs. In 2019 I released my first project. Followed by another project entitled “Evolving” in 2020, and a single entitled “mirror” in 2021. I’ve been focused on perfecting my craft, and my brand.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to make people feel good. When folks listen to my music, I want them to feel connected. I love to hear “I’ve been through the same thing” or “I felt that song.” My mission is for my music to touch souls.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having made someone’s day. I recently had an old friend reach out. He informed me that his daughter has been dealing with severe depression. He told me that he sent my song “free” to his daughter, and that this song truly made her day. I remember being in tears like WOW! My testimony and my song really and truly made a difference in someone’s life. I’d say that was the most rewarding moment I’ve ever felt.
