We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lex Abner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lex, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
In this particular industry, most highly recommend finding a niche. Sticking to one specific type of production work, but I’m simply breaking that rule! One of the things I love about the industry is there’s always something new I can learn and I don’t want to know just one piece of a world of knowledge. Also without having a niche it expands my creativity and opportunities. I think of it like this the more I know the more I can help people in every aspect as I can. That’s what makes a good business owner, leaving no one out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The reason I wanted to be in this craft is because I wanted to become apart of making history through the lens, when I saw one particular film. My sister & I went to go see the modern classic of Aladdin in 2019; I was in awe of how well articulated the film was. The effects, seamless transitions, the cast, the whole production team, and the music. What really was the kicker for me is combining the original story plot with a Disney plot twist was an extraordinary proposal and intriguing from beginning to end. After seeing the movie that day forward I took production seriously.
I’m a up coming freelance videographer & photographer in the DMV area ( D.C., Maryland, & Virginia). Besides taking photos I can do business promotions, music videos, weddings, birthdays, baby showers, gender reveals, conferences, sports highlights and everything in between. When I work with clients i provide quality service & satisfaction.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me the most effective strategy for growing my clientele is word by mouth. It doesn’t matter if I’m doing the talking for my self or I get recommended by someone who I worked with in the past. Starting a business one of the best ways to getting the brand seen & heard is getting comfortable of communicating with people in person. It knocks out first impressions, professionalism, seriousness, bond building, and you mainly get the background of why they’ll need the service. Don’t get me wrong in the present time we live in social is still effective as well slowly but surly my business pages are growing with true supporters and satisfy clients.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of networking is word of mouth. Social media can help you especially in modern day but the best way I have gain revenue is word of mouth me going door to door or a reference.
