We were lucky to catch up with Lewy Bluestrips recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lewy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
In the music industry, one of the biggest challenges to profitability is knowing how to properly collect all your royalties. New and old artists deal with this issue everyday due to lack of information and how quick the industry evolves.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 25 year old independent artist from Modesto California. I am well known for my viral song, “#Sweetladychallenge”. I pursued music for fun and to learn the business side of the industry. I make Pape Music which inspires listeners to be theirselves, strive for greatness and show love. I have generated six figures from my catalog. I use the money to invest in my music, clothing brand, real estate, and Web 3. I believe you can overcome any obstacle if stay disciplined, consistent and trust in God.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by creating content in bulk, posting consistently and engaging with my supporters. I didn’t like doing any of the above because it felt corny and uncomfortable. I kept challenging myself to do it because I knew it was necessary to grow my business. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my audience on social media. I am forever grateful and thankful for you all.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I used my first job and different side hustles to fund my business. My side hustles were selling clothes, cutting hair, and graphic designing. Amazon was my first warehouse job. I worked there for six months, stacked $5,000 and quit to pursue my music career full time.
