Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lewis Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lewis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have worked on is working with a company named MEDCO. They represent hundreds of thousands of automotive tool and equipment distributers, and once a year they hold a trade show that brings them all together. Each year they also choose a charity to represent and hold an auction for. I had a booth at the trade show where I displayed five Tailgate Benches. During the first day of the trade show I built a bench at the booth on spot to be auctioned off to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric cancer research the next day. We were given the booth at the automotive tool and equipment trade show to display the benches and allow attendees to watch the process of an actual full build. Not only was I able to create art in front of an audience, but the bench I built set a record for the highest selling item at the auction. Going for an incredible 4100 dollars. The entire experience allowed me to be to fully impressed in my automotive roots, and I was able to work with tools from some of the biggest brands. All while being on the floor with them all around me. Another special aspect of the whole thing is that they only invite one artist a year so we were the only booth like ours in the entire event.

Lewis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into my industry at a early age. It started when I bought my first car from my older brother. Being from Michigan the weather beats up on the body of cars. It being a older model the body was completely rotted out. I took it upon myself to try and fix the body which is similar to sculpting. Never finished the car but it sparked my passion in paint and body so I ended up going to Michigan Automotive Academy to carry out my high school years. Upon Graduation I continued my education at Nashville Auto Diesel where I learned all of my paint and body skills and haven’t stopped since. I provide custom paint and fabrication on vehicles as well as the custom furniture, lamps and bars made from car parts. What sets myself/shop from other shops is my ability to create timeless pieces for the common automotive enthusiasts as well as help them bring there creative visions to life with there personal vehicles. I am most proud of my being selected as a feature artist for one of the biggest automotive tool and equipment trade shows in 2021 the Medco show. since then I’ve done a restaurant in Florida,Dealership in Georgia and just recently I have a few pieces going in a Resort in North Georgia among the regular clients/collectors along the way. Im really excited about the future and new works ill create!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is the freedom to create your own narrative. It gives you a clear view of of your feelings, emotions from your perspective at that moment in time. The excitement that the piece gives the public is confirmation that I’m on the right track and seals the deal. I love it!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for me is retaining as much Automotive history as possible as we move into a new form of transportation. The pieces I build are repurposed parts which otherwise would have been scrap. These pieces present nostalgia.
