Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lewis Burch . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lewis , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I remember it like it was yesterday; it was December 10, 2022. I was at a standstill in my career, contemplating whether I should I go to Atlanta and invest in these classes to further my career. I’ve been cutting hair for 8 years, and at that time, I grew weary of following the same routine as everyone else in my industry. I knew what God was calling me to do in terms of taking the step towards becoming a Holistic Men’s Grooming Specialist. Eventually I removed fear and got it done it turned out well it was worth the risk and invest. Another risk I took was leaving the traditional barbershop setting and going to open up my men’s grooming spa. So fast forward its January 2024 it’s been over a year since I took my classes and made the investment in myself. I’ve been incorporating everything I’ve learned from the classes all 2023 I’ve already separated myself and I knew it was time to leave the barbershop and go open up my men’s grooming spa I didn’t know how it will go would go or how the transition would be. Would my clients be on board to the move that I’m making I knew I wanted to offer them the full wholistic experience but one thing for surely they was onboard onto the experience I wanted to give them. Everything came together lovely I’m still making adjustments to the move but it’s been wonderful. All Glory to God for the vision He gave me.
Lewis , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Lou James, The Wholistic Groomer. I’ve been in the men’s grooming industry for 9 years. My start in the industry really began with my curiosity. I had a pair of clippers sitting around the house that I used to give myself haircuts. From there, I started to develop an interest in becoming a men’s grooming specialist. As I embark on my journey in the industry, I took the time to figure out what will set me apart from every other barber in the industry. I was already interested in herbs and holistic remedies, so I delved deeper into studying herbs and holistic practices. I noticed that many men were facing issues with their scalp and skin, as they were unsure about what products to use. They often buy shampoos and other products that don’t solve their issues when it comes to their scalp. I recently opened Imago Dei Men’s Grooming Spa, a men’s spa specializing in holistic scalp treatments, acne keloidalis nuchae treatments (also known as ingrown hair removal), and holistic facials. The main purpose of my brand is to provide men with a safe space where they can decompress and receive encouragement, speaking life into anyone who sits in my chair.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A couple of books that have helped shape my entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy are the Bible and “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. When the Bible says, “Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant.” “If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” I understand the significance of planting seeds in business; growth doesn’t happen overnight. You don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect to start. Trust in God and the process, stay consistent, and focus on planting good seeds. One bridge located in Jacksonville, FL has had a tremendous impact on how I run my business and always encourages me to think big. Also, my brother Trevaris Tutt, the owner of Occupy Realty Group, and my sister Toya, the owner of Elite Media Group, have been a blessing when it comes to shaping my perspective on entrepreneurship. They always poured into me, showing me how entrepreneurship is for the creatives.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes I would choose the same profession it’s nothing I love more than what I do. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
