We recently connected with Levi Kirby and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Levi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process?
My business partner, Jake Huber, and I launched SplyceHouse on January 1, 2022. From day 1, we knew Jake’s brother, Adam Huber, would be a huge part of our success, and he has been integral ever since. We thought it would be just us three for the entire first year, but as business came in faster than expected, we knew in order to sustainably grow, we had to expand the team ASAP. Since then, we have hired a full-time editor and a project manager, and we’re in the process of bringing on more team members before the year is over.
We decided even before SplyceHouse was officially launched, that the people, culture, and brand would be prioritized over all. The brand is very important to us, and we know the people create the culture that reinforces the brand. We want people to want to work with us. We look at the culture-fit of all of our hires almost as equally as we look at the talent.
Culture is kind of a buzzword in 2022, but we truly believe that honesty, transparency, and trust can go a long way in establishing an environment that people want to be a part of.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I graduate from SIUE in 2010 with a BA in Mass Communication, and I’ve worked in the industry ever since, either as part of an agency, or as an independent contractor. I’ve worn many hats over the years, as we all have, but my desire is to always have a camera in my hand.
At SplyceHouse, I’m the “Director of Photography” – even though I’m not a huge fan of titles.
SplyceHouse is a full-service, video production company that my partner (Jake Huber) and I launched on January 1, 2022.
Without sounding incredibly cliche, we like to tell stories that solve problems.
We like to pinpoint the objective, identify the audience, and target the content as much as possible to deliver our clients stories in a meaningful way.
That’s already more “selling” than I generally like to do, but I’m proud of the brand, I’m proud of the people, and we will continue to prioritize those things even when it gets tougher as we grow.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Gary Vaynerchuk – AKA “Gary Vee”
Gary Vee has been incredibly influential in my journey; from having a “side hustle” to being a business owner. His advice and tactics have helped grow our social media audience at SplyceHouse, he’s influenced my actions as a “leader,” and he’s an overall inspiration to the entrepreneurial spirit.
I highly recommend you follow him on social media, listen to his podcasts, and if nothing else, read his book: “Twelve and a Half.”
Another book that I haven’t finished yet, but am already getting a lot of value from, is called, “The E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It.” It presents a ton of experiential knowledge that is great for entrepenuers, especially for someone like me, who often falls into the trap of working too much “IN the business” and not “ON the business.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I can boil down our most effective strategy for growing clientele into three words: branding, reputation, and network.
Your brand is what people think of when they think of you. This holds true for personal brands as well as businesses.
I haven’t even touched on “the work” yet. That’s because I believe doing good work is expected. Good work is a non-negotiable. GREAT work is what builds a brand, a reputation, and if you market it properly, a network.
If you focus on those things (and are pleasurable and easy to work with), in my experience, growing your clientele is essentially a byproduct.
