We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Levi Foster. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Levi below.
Levi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In January of 2023, I left my hometown of Rustburg, Virginia and drove to Nashville in my van. I knew of a songwriter, Alex Dooley, who was from my hometown, but did not know of him personally. I looked him up and reached out to him telling him I had moved to town and I had some songs I wanted him to hear. We scheduled our first write (my first ever co-write) that February. We became fast friends and started writing all the time together, and I learned so much from him during that time. I was living in my van during this time in parking lots. Alex and his family were kind enough to let me sleep in their basement until I could afford a place of my own. I did nothing but write songs. The publishing company that Alex was signed to took notice to the songs we were writing, and signed me to a publishing and recording deal in October of 2023. I started recording my own songs including multiple singles, 2 EPs, and my first full length album going into 2024. I never weighed the risks of perusing this journey and was never fearful of the unknown. I only knew this was the place I needed to be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, and grew up listening to classic Country and Bluegrass Music. I got my first guitar when I was 13 and began learning and writing my own songs. In 2011, I started performing with several bands throughout Virginia and gained knowledge on what it take to be an independent artist. During this time, I gained a performance on WSM Grand Ole Opry radio, as well as opportunity to open for national acts including Ashley McBride, Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, John Conlee, Lori Morgan, and Pam Tillis. After moving to Nashville in January of 2023, I start a solo career writing and recording my own original music. Later that year, I signed a publishing deal with Banner Music and began the journey of releasing music. We have since recorded multiple singles, 2 EP’s, and full length album set to release in 2025. I have also gained multiple performance opportunities including five shows as direct support for the Olivier Anthony “Out Of The Woods” Tour
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I started making performance videos on Instagram and TikTok. Just a guitar, camera and me. I was initially doing original songs that I had written. Then one day I decided to do a videos of a pop songs in the style of different classic Country artists. This gained me a lot of traction on social media. This tactic ultimately garnered real fans that stayed for my original music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of this business, is seeing a diverse group people that come from all over the country, and the world, who somehow share a same endeavour. Then eventually finding a place among them.
