We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LETTRISH BETRISH a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LETTRISH, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Becoming a artist was random for me. Seeing the ones close to me work on their projects and learning from their challenges of becoming who they are today made me create my brand of who I am as a artist today. I choose to understand what it means to become a artist. It didn’t matter if it came from the internet, seeing other artist perform. Any information that I deemed as influential and important to me I took notes and ran with it. One thing I could of done to enhance my knowledge on it was to put my full focus on becoming a artist. The skills that worked best for me was me being able to listen to different beats and creating my own lyrics to fit my narrative. Being able to write a song and take each word piece by piece to make it sound how it’s suppose to. The only obstacle that got in my way was me trying to figure out what type of artist I want to be. Anyone can write a song but the key for me was being able to allow my listeners to understand the meanings of my music.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a independent artist from Augusta Georgia but reside in Minneapolis Minnesota. I’ve been doing music for about 7 years now. Taking on this career path definitely elevated me now then ever before. What’s different about me is that I advocate for everyone to be their selves. That’s the message I push with my music. Growing up I was bullied for being who I wanted to be rather then being who others wanted me to be. I always found myself pleasing others and being there when they needed me, but never got the same energy in return. So I push heavy for everyone to be who they want to be and don’t give energy to anything or anyone who is not there for you through your journey. I’m proud that I am able to find my true happiness by moving in a way that fits me. I want my fans and current followers to master this and never be afraid to express their selves. Being fun, joyful, and most of all straight to the point is who I am and I’m glad that I can influence others to take pieces of me and add it to their everyday lives.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being a artist is me being able to be myself. My trueself. Being who I want to be without judgment. Without second guessing myself. I’m able to accomplish anything that my brand represents smoothly. It’s a total win. I feel like I won in a race that I’m s till running.

Have you ever had to pivot?
It was a time that I had to learn to balance everyday life with music life. Being a creator is about representation. I learned to never give little to what matters the most when anything you put your mind to always matters the most. I had to even out my playing field. Give all I got to my personal life and give all I got to my music life. That’s how your able to master it all. I was struggling by putting my music life first before my personal life. I found myself in a sticky situation due to me thinking my personal life isn’t important when in reality it is. I stopped doing music for a while just to get things right in my life in order to do my best with my craft. Never rush to put your craft out there. Always take your time and make sure priorities is token care of first.
