We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Letrice Mason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Letrice, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I took a risk when starting my own practice. When I was in nursing school, the curriculum has you believing that that the only jobs available were working in a hospital/clinic for someone else. It never gave advice on how to open a practice to work for yourself. After working for other my entire career and seeing how women of color were sometimes over looked or pushed to the side, I decided that I wanted to fill that gap in healthcare and offer a different approach. I offer a space for all women to feel comfortable to open up about all aspects of their healthcare without criticism or feeling rushed. So far, my patients feel happy and heard.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since starting my journey in Nursing, I have always worked in the Women’s Health specialty. I have spent most of my time connecting with my patients on a higher level then just Provider/Patient. I vow to make my patients feel comfortable in all aspects of the healthcare. I have devoted many years of my career to women’s wellness at every stage in life. I am a firm believer that emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness can truly be life-changing and strives to provide this for every single patient. I am most proud of providing a comprehensive healthcare plan for the patients. Her Down There specializes in Birth Control, STD Testing, Vaginitis, Urinary Tract Infections, Menopause, Low Libido, Fertility, Hormonal Acne, PCOS, Fibroids, Irregular Periods, and Hormonal Imbalances. We are best at helping women get the care they need from the comfort of their homes or in person. We stand to make women’s healthcare easy, fast, convenient, and affordable.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Succeeding in my field requires the ability to be personable and understanding. The patients are looking for someone that doesn’t judge their choices, yet listens and guides them in the right direction.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would absolutely choose the same profession. I has the been the most fulfilling choice I have made. I have the best patients that make my job not feel like work.
