We were lucky to catch up with Leticia Rodriguez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Leticia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you manage your own social media?
From August 2021 – Current time in 2023 I Myself have been the Owner/Management/Team of Silky Smooth’s Media Content. Its quite frankly a lot more backstage work than I thought and I would have never thought I would be doing any of it but its way more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. I myself have and sometimes still am shy putting myself out there for content, something as small as posting a story of me talking about deals, reminders, or just about the work day makes me bashful but the feedback and support I receive from it is what makes me want to try and do it more. I’m very grateful that my business and its purpose is seen and heard by so many amazing and powerful people!

Leticia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am 24 Years old who is a Latina Owned Business, and I have been in the waxing industry in itself for 5+ Years. I do think its kind of crazy how I became a Wax Specialist let alone an Owner of a Waxing Studio.
In August of 2020, mid Covid-19 Pandemic I make the wild decision to leave my full time job to fulfill the dream of starting up my own Waxing Studio. I’m not going to lie, I had my family and myself terrified of taking this jump as we would hear left and right of small businesses shutting down. My husband, being one of my biggest supporters, would constantly tell me to just go for it. Especially since I love what I do and could not stop talking about it.
So I took the risk, and it was scary. I started out with 12-14 clients a week for the first couple of months. It was enough to pay the studios necessities and have some left over. To be quite honest I was pretty happy with having that at the moment as I felt free in a sense, being my own boss, my own schedule, it felt amazing! But I knew I wanted more for myself so the work of creating content on Instagram, Paying Ads/Promotions, and simply word of mouth from other clients are what really helped my business start booming a little more. Before I knew it, In 2021 my books were full! I couldn’t believe it, the growth my business had in a surprising matter of time, the amazing people I had met, I couldn’t ask for anything more!
Some say what sets me apart from others is the fact I seem genuine in the work I do and how I treat my clients. Truth is, I keep it 100% honest with my clients. I truly care so much about each and every single one of them and it matters to me how I can make them feel Confident and comfortable in and out of their appointments. Some would say I am their “therapist” because they feel a sense of safety and security in the room, and that couldn’t have been a better feeling to hear that.
I am most proud of my work to be quite honest, the business as a whole but particularly the art work of waxing. Waxing might look easy when you know what you’re doing but it takes full pride and knowledge to give a client the best quality of wax and smooth results, like done here!
My current clients know this, that in the business skincare is the uttermost important thing to maintain to see the best results, but even with that, here at Silky Smooth we go by honesty and if you truly need or don’t need something, we will let you know. We don’t like the idea to sell you more services or products just for our benefits, you will only be recommended what we believe in our professional opinion will be best for you, the rest is up to you!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
It was a hard pill to swallow, but the lesson I had to unlearn was 2 things “You’ll know when your ready”
&
“Every client is worth the money”.
I did NOT feel ready to start my business, I felt confident in trying but in all honesty I didn’t think I was necessarily ready. I was just willing to take the risk and see what the success or lesson came out of it. I always saw it as it being worse letting years go by wondering “I wonder where I would be if i did xyz” & instead Id rather take the risk and tell myself “At least I know and not having any regrets” of the outcome I learned from that.
Thankfully and gratefully, everything is going great!
I strongly believe and stand by, with the statement of the client is Not always right. I’ve learned the hard way of having some past clients walk over me and attempt to rewrite my policies or situations over finances. For the longest you hear, “The customer is always right” or “Give them the discount so they will come back” etc. but after these few years of working in customer service and having my own business, I abide with, I might not be the perfect Esthetician/Business for everyone, and that is OKAY!
I am very confident about my work and the results of my business, but I have truly learned to accept the fact that not all money is good money and you shouldn’t let anyone disrespect you or your business by any means just so they can get something out of you and you get a little money for it!
The right people and the right clients will come to you, just keep doing your thang!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Corny, but Honesty is the best policy. Here is why. The type of job I do is working with a variety of women performing waxing services on areas that are very personal. All I I want with my business is to help women feel Beautiful and confident in their skin, to be heard as a person, and to be comfortable with who they are and what they have.
With Women asking you for professional advice and trusting to get a service done by you,NO ONE wants to be lied to just to get them to buying something. I can only agree with the fact that you owe it to them by being honest. Nothing good ever comes from lying to try to get your way with sales, some people can read through that bull and end up not coming back and then that’s how people are going to start seeing you, so what’s the point!
So I always treat my clients with my full respect, true personality, and honest professional opinion because what matters to be is the best for them in their skin and themselves as a person. We love building up a woman here!
