We recently connected with Leslie Huerta and have shared our conversation below.
Leslie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero is my dad. My dad passed away 6 years ago, and I wish I could have told him this, but he is my hero because of who he was towards others; there was not a day that he would not help someone. My dads personality revolved in what he could do for others, and that is what I learned from him and carry through my business. I love being able to help others with my creativity gift and knowledge, whether it be from helping someone plan out the balloon decoration for their up coming event, to helping someone who wants to start their own balloon styling business. When I started my business, there was no one to ask for help, and if I did reach out to someone, I would not get an answer, so I said to my self “when you have a fluent business, that will not be you, you will help and encourage others to be more in life.” Now here I am, 7 years after starting my business from my living room, to having a balloon styling business that has been able to help others nationally. So, I will continue to help others, just like my dad did, because “el sol brilla para todos” (“the sun shines for everyone,”) and I believe that the more people I help in life, the more my purpose on earth has been accomplished.
Leslie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
First of all, I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to share with you all a little bit more about myself and my story. I am Leslie Huerta, and am the owner of Let’s Create Parties. I started my business 7 years ago. At the time I was a first time mom, and like a lot of moms, I felt lost; I felt as though I I needed to keep going with my dream of being a business owner. So one day, I got the idea of making and selling party crafts all while still being a stay at home mom. I had always been a creative person, so I figured this was something I could do and I invested $200 into this new idea of mine. Fast forward to 1 year later, I had been a part of over 100 parties, and as time passed I added more items to my business. Now, we offer balloon styling, rentals, print services, have a wood shop, and will start doing classes again for anyone who wants to start their own balloon styling business. I can honestly say that I love what I do; I love decorating and I love helping others in their business journey. To say that I have been able to help other event decorators nationally with our print services, is something that makes me proud of how far this business has come: a small part of Let’s Create Parties is spread all over the US. Here at Let’s Create Parties you will find your party needs, and you will also find me, Leslie, who wants to see other woman start and succeed in their business.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my husband Daniel. When I started the business it was just be making my crafts, but the more it grew, the more help I needed, and that is where Daniel stepped in. He is a big part of Let’s Create Parties. I am more of the creative one, I do all of the designing and social media and Daniel is the handy one, he does all the heavy lifting and the building. I like to say that we are the ying and the yang; we balance each other out. I can honestly say that without my husband as my business partner, Lets Create Parties would not be where it is today. We have both worked so hard and have learned and grown so much through out the business journey. It hasn’t been easy, but seeing how we have built something from nothing, is an amazing accomplishment as business partners and as a couple.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love to read books, listen to podcasts, and study successful entrepreneurs. I believe that you can become the person that you want to be by working on your mind. Some books that I have read that have impacted the way I think is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyways” by Susan Jeffers, and “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself” by Shed Helmstetter. Those are some that have really helped me in staying positive and in accepting failure and fear as part of the journey to reach success. We are all a work in progress, but I know that whatever problem it is that I am having, whether it be personal or business related, there is someone who has already solved that problem and has most likely written a book about it, so that is why I continue to read and study others; if someone else did what I want to do, so can I.
