Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leslie Alvarez, CEO of LA Productions. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Leslie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful in life you first have to love what you do, you truly have to have the drive and do it with a passion. That’s the main key to the road of success, followed by discipline and consistency. Sometimes it might take longer than we expect, but great things don’t come easy, so that’s when patience comes in. Hard work needs to be put into the universe in order to receive success in exchange and ever forget the reason why you started. My professional life can relate a lot to this and I can say I am where I am today thanks to the love I have for what I do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 24 year old Miami based photographer who focuses on music festivals and celebrities. I have been involved in the music industry trough photography for about 4 years now, and have had the pleasure to work with a great variety of artists and festivals such as Vibra Urbana, SunFest, Brtweekend events etc. Making artists’visions come true is what I’m best at, and I always put my heart in it, which sets me apart from others making me one of the greatest shooters from my city.
I’m very proud of how far I’ve came because it has been a long way but not once have I thought about giving up . I want this to inspire others, not only artists but also other photographers who are just starting and have the same goals as me . I want them to know that everything is possible, all they need is to give the first step and keep a steady pace.
How did you build your audience on social media?
How did you get to shoot for big celebrities/festivals ? That is my most asked question and I honestly love that one since it brings me back to the times where I was on square one asking other photographers the same question. Only difference is I had no instructions, but I love guiding others so here is what I did . First I had to build up my audience , so I had to sacrifice a lot of my time to go shoot at small local events in order to network and be able to showcase my work on Instagram and all social media platforms . I had to do a lot of collaborations in order to build up my portfolio, but I honestly didn’t mind it because I’m in love with my career and this is how I met a lot of the amazing people that I’m really close to today .
One of them being Miami Afrobeat artist Yung Wylin. I had the pleasure to shoot the cover to his new single “Good Energy” out now on all platforms. This is one of my favorite projects and I can say I’m blessed to be part of his team, so big shout out to him and his manager , AKA Momager.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn is that not everyone in this industry has the best intentions with you, and will try to sell you a dream, therefore it is okay to say no and turn down opportunities that do not serve your purpose.
