Lesia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
So it’s 2018 and I pick up a camera for the first time. I did not know what to do, only to place my camera on auto and take the picture ! (lol) After working with friends and family, I felt comfortable enough to start advertising on social media. This advertising started in January of 2019 and I had my first client in February of 2019. My first client ended up being a coworker of my best friend! Y’all I traveled from Atlanta to Auburn for $80! And did do a two hour shoot. Friends and family had paid me before but never that much. lol It made me feel like nothing could stop me. I started to feel like wow if I can make this I can make more. I really enjoyed making my own money and not depending on another system for income.

In the corner of my soul, there lingers something wild but tamed, quiet but fierce, and ready to take the world by storm, one dope shoot after the next. I’ve always had a desire to capture special moments and then, voilà, Ninalei was born. I had friends getting involved in opening beauty bars, clothing boutiques, hair boutiques, etc and found myself wanting to be a part of the world of entrepreneurship. I have always adored the keepers of beautiful things and felt this was my way to not only walk in my gift but supplement my income as well. I needed something to show people that I am not only someone who has a “9-5”, but I can be creative and become my own boss.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Bringing people joy and giving my clients an element of satisfaction is my overall goal. Today, I can state I have been a part of many joyous occasions and the feeling warms my heart. I find true happiness in making my clients smile and to bring joy to those I capture.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
CLASSESS ! I started off being a Youtube Student (which helped) however, there are so many senior professionals that are willing to help newbies! Also your software is super important and one should be willing to make the investment. It takes money to make money !
