We recently connected with Lesean M and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lesean, thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
I didn’t come into business with a perfect blueprint or a big team — I came in with purpose and pressure. I’ve worked jobs that had nothing to do with beauty or skincare — but every single one taught me something. One of the most important lessons I learned wasn’t glamorous: it was about capacity. I was working long hours and still trying to push my own business forward after clocking out. I realized quickly that there’s no one coming to save your dream but you.
There was no “right time” — only make time.
That lesson showed me how to juggle, how to prioritize, and most of all — how to keep showing up even when the process is slow and the results aren’t instant. That consistency, even when I was tired or doubting myself, is the reason My Bath Bar exists.
Being a business owner forces you to become a solution in real time. I didn’t wait until I had the perfect lab, the perfect packaging, or even a team. I started where I was — in my garage — and let the mission grow louder than the fear.
Now, every time a customer says one of my products helped them feel seen, feel better, or feel beautiful in their own skin — it reminds me why that lesson mattered so much. That grind taught me endurance. And endurance is what built the brand.

Lesean, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Lesean, and I’m the founder of My Bath Bar — a plant-based cosmetics brand focused on intentional self-care through handmade soaps, perfume oils, etc and skin-focused rituals.
I didn’t start this brand because of a typical skincare issue — I started it out of frustration. I was dealing with a persistent scalp fungus and couldn’t find clean, effective products that aligned with my values. So many options on the market were filled with synthetic ingredients, harsh fragrances, or didn’t support overall wellness. That experience led me to study ingredients more deeply and start crafting my own formulations — and that curiosity grew into a passion, and eventually, a business.
My Bath Bar offers cold process soaps, roll-on perfume oils, moisturizing products, and soon, a face cream. All of our products are divided into two categories: Purist Formulas (simpler, minimal-ingredient blends) and Performance Formulas (targeted solutions with actives). We cater to people who want to elevate their daily rituals with clean, plant-based ingredients — and still enjoy rich textures and signature scents that feel indulgent.
Right now, I’m proud of the standard I’m setting — even as a small business without investors or major backing. I create everything by hand, while still working another job, and I’m in the early stages of building a space that reflects the type of care I want people to experience in their own lives. My products are catching attention because of their texture, scent, and the thoughtful energy behind them. We’re not claiming perfection — we’re building something honest, beautiful, and rooted in care.
What I want people to know is this: My Bath Bar is for those who crave cleaner, more intentional body care — and believe that self-care can be both practical and sacred. I’m just getting started, and I’m open about that. I’m actively seeking funding and support to help grow this vision into something even more impactful — because I know the value is there.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy so far has been leaning into the sensory appeal of my products — especially scent and texture. People are naturally curious when they see soaps that look rich and beautifully crafted, or hear that a product smells like something they’ve never experienced before. That curiosity is what draws them in.
Social media has helped us create that spark visually, but a lot of growth is still coming from in-person interactions and word of mouth. When someone touches or smells the product for the first time, it creates a moment — and that moment often turns into a sale, or a share.
We’ve also started offering a free Stress Reset Guidebook as a lead magnet on my site. It’s a digital download that helps people rethink their self-care routines and gives them a reason to stay connected with the brand. It’s not just about selling a product — it’s about helping people build rituals that support their well-being, even outside the bath.
Right now, We are focused on slow, steady growth through storytelling, education, and letting the product speak for itself. It’s not overnight — but it’s intentional, and that’s the kind of community we want to build.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Right now, we are focused on building trust through gentle, intentional communication. I don’t believe in bombarding people with constant emails or texts — I want customers to actually look forward to hearing from us.
My Bath Bar stays in touch through email marketing, where we share meaningful content like our free Stress Reset Guidebook, behind-the-scenes updates, and new product drops. Every email is written with care — the goal is to create value, not just sell. We also use Instagram to connect in real time and give people a feel for the textures, scents, and rituals behind the brand.
Loyalty, to me, starts with feeling seen. I pay attention to what people respond to — whether it’s a certain scent, product format, or routine — and I use that feedback to shape what we make next. We also let customers know when they’re early supporters, because that means something in a small business.
Eventually, our plan is to deepen that connection through a private community, personalized product experiences, and our upcoming Conscious Care Club — a seasonal box that blends plant-based skincare, rituals, and digital wellness tools. The long-term goal isn’t just sales — it’s relationship.
