We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lequvia Ousley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lequvia below.
Alright, Lequvia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am the owner of D.I.V.I.N.E. Blogger, LLC and my mission is to help others tell their stories authentically and unapologetically. I assist in the creation and management of content from the hearts of God’s chosen vessels, with the purpose of bringing forth those divine messages to the masses. As far as I can remember, I’ve always had a love for words and great stories. As a child, I expanded my vocabulary through spelling bees and a great love for reading. I still remember the many visits to our local library in my hometown of Dawson, GA and the numerous magazine subscriptions my mother kept of Jet, EBONY, Essence, Black Enterprise, and VIBE that I read everyday as a teenager. My favorite columns were the inspirational columns in EBONY and Essence, the historical articles of Dorothy Dandridge, Emmett Till, etc. in Jet, the business columns in Black Enterprise, and the numerous articles on my favorite music artists in VIBE. I would later expand my own catalogue of magazines with a mixture of teen magazines that focused on music and fashion. I always said my teenage life consisted of music, magazines, movies, and makeup. From that point in my life, journal writing became my therapy as I navigated school, family situations, and just life. I was introduced to blogs and social media platforms in 2005 while in college which helped me to express my thoughts and connect with my peers and networks that shared my interests of great music, film, and art. My first freelance assignment as a blogger began in July 2012 for a local nonprofit where my aim was to educate and empower students and community on resources for success. In a span of 7 years, I realized that my writing was a combination of information and inspiration, moments to educate and empower readers. In 2014, I joined Just Write!, a writer’s group birthed through my former church’s Embassy International Chamber of Commerce ministry. At the time, I was meeting many people who shared the gift of writing in the form of scribal ministry. I enjoyed learning about being a scribe as the greatest book ever written by scribes was the Bible. I loved reading the Bible from beginning to end as it gave us history, poetry, inspiration, and life gems. I love when writing is creatively inspired, flowing and not forced which is what I share with many who tell me they don’t like writing. I was not a fan of writing either in school because of the topics but once I began to write about things I loved, the passion grew and remains today. Once I recognized that passion, I saw a need in my community to help others who have a message tell their stories. The support, encouragement, and accountability from Just Write! inspired me to launch D.I.V.I.N.E. Blogger, LLC, where I help, “develop intellectual visionaries’ individual needs exceptionally” through social media management, blog content management, editing, and writing services. While helping others perfect their story, I have also been fortunate to have my stories featured in various collaborations, on podcasts, and blogs to inspire others to never cut off their voice.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lequvia Ousley. I am a native of Dawson, GA currently residing in Metro Atlanta within the Stonecrest community. As an experienced accounting/administrative professional, I have also served Metro Atlanta as an educator and contractor to businesses and individuals with the aim to provide quality services and community support. I provide writing services as a freelance writer/blogger who loves to create and edit content for others as a result of joining a writer’s group and seeing a need in my community to help aspiring and veteran authors develop their stories. I am a published author with a passion for learning, community service, and philanthropy. I have dedicated my time through the years serving within various organizations as a mentor, board member, and volunteer. As a serial entrepreneur, I am a founding member of the Embassy International Chamber of Commerce Network as well as a member of the Stonecrest Chamber of Commerce.I enjoy books, music, films, networking, and connecting with family and friends. My personal motto is, “Success is the positive result of using one’s God-given gifts to serve others.” I am proud of superseding unrealistic expectations placed on my life by generational curses, family circumstances, and limiting belief systems. My biggest accomplishment in life is trusting God and leaving behind all that I knew to fulfill the mission and calling to serve in the fullness of who God created me to be. It is my joy to connect and serve through my gifts and passions.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect as a creative is having the freedom to create my own lane not only personally but professionally. The symbol on my logo is a butterfly which represents freedom, metamorphosis, and growth. I’ve always been enamored with butterflies since childhood so it made sense to incorporate those elements into my business and personal life. I’m very big on freedom when it comes to my assignments and who I choose to work with. If a project isn’t a great fit, I personally refer the potential client to a business associate that can fully execute the needs of that company. As I look back at my journey, I’m thankful I found my freedom through writing and storytelling that spoke to my personal experiences, hopes, and dreams. I believe that artists and creatives have the right to create as they are led to based on their personal and professional mission and not what is dictated by society. What that creative expression looks like depends on the individual’s direction and goals. It is my hope that anyone regardless of the industry and clientele he or she serves, always find inspiration and creative freedom in their daily life and interactions that will enrich their overall aim as a creative or artist.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has always been referrals from family and friends. Although I am well-versed in the use of social media and other forms of technology, I still love the personal touch of meeting people at networking events and receiving new clients from former clients who still mention my name to a potential client for a particular service. I have been fortunate to still maintain a longstanding relationship and partnership with fellow creatives I’ve worked with throughout the years. I encourage all business owners to remain consistent with standards and substance within their business with the desire to work in a spirit of excellence. You never know who is watching before becoming a potential client. It’s important to remain true to one’s mission and vision to meet the needs of clientele with great services. Never forget who you are and why your business exists.
