We recently connected with Leone Germaneau and have shared our conversation below.
Leone, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. Then, I got my first guitar, and learned a bit of piano. But as I was a very curious child, I also tried a lot of after school activities instead of focusing on music. It took me years to realise that music was what I wanted to do for a living. I wish I realised that earlier and really focused on learning piano, guitar and music production, as figuring everything out at the same time now is really slowing me down.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I write pop and acoustic/folk songs, on topics such as breakups, life events, good times, being Queer and Proud, etc.
My inspirations goes from Charlie Puth, Benson Boone, Lewis Capaldi, Dean Lewis, etc… to Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato. I also grew up listening to The Beetles, Michael Jackson, Prince, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, etc. and am still a big fan of those artists.
I hope that someday, I’ll be able to write songs with those inspirations.
At the moment, I am working on my debut EP and singles, that will hopefully be released during the year 2024. I don’t have a date yet, as I want the music to be perfect and be proud of the result before releasing anything. Stay Tuned!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
There’s something magical yet frustrating with creativity. Sometimes, you want to write about a specific topic, and nothing comes to your mind for days, weeks, sometimes more. And suddenly, for me at 2 a.m. generally, your brain just start over-working and the whole song just flows.
I couldn’t have a deadline like “I need to write 10 songs by October” cause sometimes I’ll write 3 songs within an hour, and sometimes I’ll have notes on my phone that stays untouched for 2 months.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to express yourself. I don’t need recognition from anyone else, I don’t need someone to tell me if my songs are good or not. It’s a way I have to express what I feel, what I’ve been through, take off my chest what needs to be said, heal from some experiences…
I’ve always been good with words, writing things was always easier than speaking.
Having a way to express yourself and heal yourself so easily is an incredible gift.
Then, when someone relate to what you wrote, the feeling of knowing that it can help even just 1 person who didn’t know how to express this feeling… that makes all the difference in the world.
