We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leonardo Neira a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leonardo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Everything! At Miami Convertibles, we lean into the vibe, not the rulebook. Most car rental companies follow a rigid, corporate playbook: same cars, same contracts, boring counters, long lines and good luck getting a real human on the phone. We flipped the script. We’re not just handing over keys; we’re curating a Miami moment.
We specialize in Mustangs and Wranglers because those rides feel like Miami. Top down, music up, ocean breeze in your hair; it’s not just transportation, it’s an experience. And we treat our customers like guests, not transactions. Want the perfect beach playlist already synced in your ride? Done. Need a rooftop route for sunset photos? We’ve got it mapped.
We also skip the stuffy counters and complicated processes. Our customers get a smooth, concierge-style experience. We’ve delivered cars to airports, hotels, even straight to the beach, keys in hand, ready to roll. One time, a family flew in for a surprise birthday trip. We worked with their sister behind the scenes to have a bright yellow Wrangler parked out front with a huge balloon tied to the mirror and a card that said, “Time to cruise, birthday boss!” That moment turned into a photo shoot, and let me tell you—it’s those little, extra touches that people never forget. They posted about it, tagged us, and three of their friends ended up booking convertibles the following month. That kind of word-of-mouth doesn’t come from standard service; it comes from memorable touches.
Our difference is simple: we treat each rental like it’s someone’s big Miami moment; because it usually is. And when you care about that, your service naturally becomes anything but standard.

Leonardo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Leo, the Chief Mustang Driver at Miami Convertibles. If you’ve ever daydreamed about cruising down Ocean Drive with the top down, music up, and sun kissing your skin, then you already get what we’re about.
I started this business after years of being on the other side of the counter; working for big rental companies that promised customers Mustangs and Wranglers online, only to hit them with the dreaded “sorry, all we have is a Corolla” speech when they showed up. I hated it. I was the one having to deliver the bad news, over and over, watching people’s excitement turn into frustration. It didn’t sit right with me. So one day, I decided enough was enough.
I made it my mission to build a rental company that actually delivers what it promises and does it with heart.
Miami Convertibles is all about turning that dream Miami trip into reality. We specialize in Mustang convertibles and Jeep Wranglers because those cars feel like Miami. They’re fun, bold, and made for the open road.
But we’re not just about the cars; we’re about the experience. No long lines, no bait-and-switch, no robotic service. We deliver the car straight to your hotel in Miami Beach. We set the vibe, offer local tips, and make sure everything is smooth so you can focus on the fun.
What sets us apart is that we treat our guests like people, not reservations. We remember names. We celebrate birthdays, honeymoons, and girls’ trips. We answer the phone when you call. And we make sure the car you booked is the car you get; no excuses.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the repeat business and word-of-mouth love we get. People come back to us year after year; not just for the wheels, but for the whole experience. That tells me we’re on the right track.
At the end of the day, Miami Convertibles is about freedom, fun, and unforgettable memories. If you’re ready to roll with style, sunshine, and zero stress; we’ve got your ride ready.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped us build our reputation? It all started with one goal: deliver a 5-star experience, every single time.
When we launched Miami Convertibles, we knew we didn’t want to be just another rental company. So instead of chasing volume or competing on price, we went the other way; we partnered with the 5-star hotels here in Miami and made it our mission to match their level of service. That meant clean, new cars, always. On-time delivery; no excuses. And above all, making our guests feel like Hollywood royalty from the moment they stepped outside.
We weren’t just handing over keys; we were handing over an experience. Every Mustang or Wrangler came with a smile, a vibe, and a little insider Miami magic. Whether it was syncing their favorite playlist, recommending the perfect rooftop bar, or just making the handoff feel smooth and special, our focus was always on elevating the moment.
And guess what? People noticed. Guests started leaving glowing reviews. The hotels started recommending us more and more. Word spread like wildfire, and suddenly, we had a loyal base of travelers who weren’t just booking cars, they were booking moments with us.
That’s really how our reputation grew: by treating every guest like a VIP, and every interaction like it mattered. Because it does. In a city full of flash, we’ve built a brand that’s all about follow-through, personal touches, and keeping it real. That’s what keeps people coming back and telling their friends.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Absolutely! for us, there’s a clear “before and after” moment: the pandemic.
I started Miami Convertibles back in 2012 with nothing but my life savings and a dream. I was hustling; making cold visits to hotel managers and concierges, pitching the idea of a car rental company that delivered more than just transportation. Slowly but surely, it worked. One hotel turned into five, then ten. Word spread. Guests loved the VIP treatment and the cool-factor of getting a Mustang or Wrangler dropped off like they were in a movie.
After eight years, we’d grown into the largest Mustang rental company in Miami. Every five-star hotel wanted to work with us. Business was booming. We were living the dream; until March 2020.
When the pandemic hit, it felt like the ground vanished beneath us. Travel stopped, our office had to close, and we were forced to start selling off our fleet just to stay afloat. It was brutal. But instead of sitting in defeat, we got to work. We started brainstorming, rebranding, and rebuilding.
Before the pandemic, we didn’t even take online bookings; our partnerships with the hotels kept us fully booked. But we realized the world had changed, and we had to change with it. So we rebuilt the brand from the ground up. We redesigned our website, launched a full online booking platform, and opened ourselves up to customers from around the world; not just hotel guests.
When the city allowed us to reopen, we were down to just 10% of our fleet. But we were scrappy and determined. One car at a time, we rebuilt. And today? We’ve doubled the size of our business. We still proudly serve Miami’s top luxury hotels and we’re fully booked every weekend with customers booking from all over the globe.
That tough season forced us to evolve; but it also proved what we’re made of. We didn’t just survive. We came back stronger, smarter, and more determined than ever.
