We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leonardo Machuca Larios a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leonardo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was in 6th or 7th grade when I Djing actually sparked my interest. All my life I grew up listening to Latin music but specially mexican music. I was the annoying noise kid by the djs or band looking at how things work, how the organized their cds and will always be asking for request to make people dance. I would also listen to more modern club music and edm.
Leonardo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Willi is a DJ, Amateur Producer & partner with Ancestral Entertainment LLC from San Diego, CA. I’m a EDM enthusiast who loves to get any crowd going! Born in Mexicali, Mexico but raised in Blythe, CA. When not performing he spends most of his time in the studio creating new mixes, mash ups, and live streams. For him, its all about mood and deep hypnotic groove! Playing those tracks that get the standers dancing and the sitters standing! He is bound to get your head nodding regardless of genre or style of music he plays. Don’t be surprised when you suddenly find your self dancing! One of his biggest projects yet is Ancestral Entetaiment. Diego Lopez is my ride or die homie & business partner, he plays a special key on my journey & right hand man! It’s been a year October and we are thriving!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
We all want to become famous, make money & travel but what my goal is to unite people. My mission is make sure you forget all your worries and free your soul. My mission is to make your soul dance, forget all your worries and focus on happiness. That why EDM is my favorite genre because you can close your eyes, feel the music with no words & meet beautiful souls
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing of been a DJ is knowing I made your wedding, birthday party or your Saturday night out. Know people were enjoying themselves, taking them to memory lane but yet still introduce them to new tune that will make them dance. Djing is not just about just playing play on a playlist, it’s about reading the crowd & getting creative with you mixing techniques to make a unique sound.
