We were lucky to catch up with Leonardo Diaz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leonardo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Um..being a creative is hard, its fun but its definitely hard. The idea that im completely dependent on myself and everything falls on me is quite stressful at most times. There’s no one to fall back on and there’s no one to share any losses with, which sucks. On the other side of that coin, the wins also fall on my own shoulders and thats something i could always stand back to look at and be proud of. Just cause i know for myself and i believe a lot of guys could relate, a lot of our self worth comes from our achievements, just cause we are usually self kept and our world is competitive in nature with others. But to answer the question, i prefer being a creative, i got a day job now and it doesnt feel like im going anywhere. everyday the same thing with no actual ladder to climb. With art everything is progression to my goal whether its finishing a painting or selling a piece of clothing, everything is a step forward.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im PIGEON aka Leo, i like to paint these characters that are either expressing joy, nervousness, or anger, in these colorful situations. i love minimal art and i love exploring feelings. I explore that with shapes and colors and bring these figures to life :) For the most part i translate these characters i paint into mascots to add on garments and run a clothing brand that way. Its a world im slowly creating and hopefully in time there will be enough of it to exist around me.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I so badly want to quit my job, i so badly want to plaster my art everywhere, i so badly want to fully give into art. Thats the dream, live in a tiny house made of canvases and have the whole world buy them to afford the living space

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Maybe not so much on how they dont understand me but more so how i dont understand them. Its hard for me to grasp my head around the idea that theres people who cant create, or have visual thoughts that they can translate to paper. I dont know…to not be able to express yourself creatively seems like absolute torture. Well i guess they can just openly talk about their feelings while i hide mine behind acrylic paint. You know what, while answering this question its almost all making sense….almost…
