We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leonard Bryan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leonard thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks was betting on myself, it seems like an easy thing to do but it isn’t.
I decided to write a short film that was based on modern relationships. The caveat was, it’s a silent film. Due to the nature of social media, I relied on Dm’s, text messages and music to articulate the conversations in the movie. A silent film in this day in age was risky but paid off handsomely, especially with the younger audience. It was the first-time people really saw how the loss of love is transcribed today. I financed everything myself, from movie posters, to renting out movie theater’s to play it. Entering my film Subliminal in dozens of film contest wasn’t cheap either. That risk won me numerous awards and recognition that I never expected but am honored to have.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Leonard Bryan Pitts, I’m credited as Leonard Bryan. I’m a writer and director. I run a production company called Production Pitt which specializes in film and commercial production & distribution. I’ve been filming everything for over 20 years. Concerts, interviews, music video and film. I know focus on promotional commercial work for businesses of all sizes and help produce films of a unique brand under the Pitt. Often when filming commercials clients don’t know what they want. I tend to focus on their personal story of the business instead of just fast colorful cut away shots. I’m proud to help those who feel like their voice or film idea doesn’t matter. Everyone has a story to tell & I’m proud to help people find their voice.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A lesson I had to learn fast was how to stay resilient. Everyone won’t want to see you win, jealously is real. The world owes you nothing and you must fight for what you want. Growing up we all face obstacles big and small. Some of us think the world is sunshine and rainbows. The world will eat you alive if you let it. Some of my biggest supporters come form people I’ve never met. Meanwhile those you would think would be reposting, sharing and liking are completely silent. You must know your purpose will come with a lot of goodbyes. Putting yourself first will come with a lot of resentment. But at the end of the day, you have to be ok with it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my social media following through YouTube. I was in the first wave of YouTube channels monetizing content. I would release video skits and blogs weekly, same time, and that added anticipation. After a while the following grew and allowed me to shoot video at Youtube Space Ny & LA. I networked and filmed content surrounded by popular topics. To gain followers you should post consistently, and if you don’t post frequently like myself now, then when you do post the wait had better been worth it. I’m talking high quality and great visuals and story telling. Engage with your audience and be true to yourself.
