We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leona Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leona below.
Hi Leona, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
“From Passion to Profession: Turning Art into a Full-Time Career” It wasn’t easy. There were moments of self-doubt, financial struggles, and long hours of hard work. But with each new project, my confidence grew. I honed my skills, developed a unique style, and built a community of fellow artists and supporters.
Today, I’m proud to say that I earn a full-time living from my creative work. I’ve had the privilege of working with clients from around the world, creating art that inspires and uplifts. My journey has taught me that with dedication, passion, and a willingness to take risks, it’s possible to turn your creative pursuits into a fulfilling career.
Leona, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dallas-based artist and creative entrepreneur. My journey into the art world began at a young age, with a passion for drawing and painting. After exploring various mediums and techniques, I discovered my love for different styles of art and its ability to evoke emotions and spark imagination.
Through my art, I aim to provide a sense of joy, serenity, and inspiration to my clients. My products and services include:
· Original abstract paintings and prints
· Commissioned art pieces tailored to clients’ spaces and styles
· Painting workshops and classes for adults at Soul Sisters Studio
· Live painting performances for events and festivals
· Collaborations with local businesses and interior designers
I solve problems for my clients by:
· Creating custom art pieces that reflect their personal taste and style
· Providing a unique and personalized experience through commissioned art
· Offering a creative outlet and stress-relief through painting workshops
· Bringing a touch of elegance and sophistication to spaces with my art
What sets me apart is my dedication to my craft, my passion for connecting with others through art, and my ability to adapt to various styles and mediums. I’m proud of the community I’ve built around my art, and the opportunity to share my creativity with others.
As for what I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know about me and my brand “SOUL SISTERS STUDIO” :
· I’m a passionate and dedicated artist who pours my heart into every piece I create
· I value connection and community, and strive to build meaningful relationships with my clients and followers
· I’m always exploring new techniques and mediums to stay fresh and inspired
· I believe that art has the power to transform spaces and lives, and I’m honored to be a part of that process.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media audience by sharing high-quality art content, engaging with followers, and leveraging Instagram features like Reels and Stories. Consistency was the key! I also collaborated with other artists and local businesses to expand my reach. My advice? Be authentic, engage with your audience, experiment with content, and be patient. Focus on building meaningful relationships and sharing your passion, and your audience will grow naturally.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As an artist, l’ve faced countless rejections, criticisms, and moments of self-doubt. It can be challenging for others to comprehend why I continue to pursue a career in the arts, despite the financial instability and emotional rollercoaster. But what they may not realize is that creativity is not just a hobby or a job – it’s a fundamental part of who I am. It’s a way of processing the world, of expressing emotions, and of connecting with others on a deeper level.
My journey as a creative has taught me to embrace the unknown, to take risks, and to trust my instincts. It’s a path that requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from failures.
