We were lucky to catch up with Leo Sandoval recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Leo, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I thought myself everything from recording, mixing, mastering, using photoshop and more. If people ever get back to me with advice or some tips I’m sure I could’ve learned everything faster if people didn’t like to gatekeep things. All the skills that i learned are important to know when it comes to creating music. Every step counts until the second u release it so I’d say they were all essential. The things that stood in the way mist was the limited resources, YouTube wasn’t nearly what it is now when I started making music so tutorials were hard to find and anyone I ever asked for some help always gave me th cold shoulder.
Leo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After listening to rap since i could remeber i always wanted to give it shot. So at 13 i started writing verses down with my cousin in his room after school. I continued writing music for years before I actually recorded something. At 18 is the 1st time I started to record and make actual songs. Funny thing I was taken off the 1st song I got on amd got replaced. Now I’m the only one rapping who was on that song, crazy coincidence. After I started recording I just started putting my music out everywhere handing cds to anyone. Then eventually I started working with other artists in the city and networking throughout my early 20s. I did show after show, feature after feature and just kept working to get my name out there. I eventually got to work with some more popular adtist in rap and even got to make a project with someone i grew up listening to. The one thing that sets me apart from everyone else is just my style, flow and eagerness to keep going. I’d say im one of the most consistent artists in my hometown but thats just my opinion. One of my proudest moments came when I hit the Itune charts in the U.K with my song featuring Major Artist Yo Gotti called “GET IT HOW LIVE”. It hit #17 on the top 100 chart in the U.k in 2021. Since then I’ve charted 4 more times on the U.S chart. I’ve been featured in plenty of major magazine sites like The Source, All Hiphop, Earmilk and even been featured in Nigerias prominent news coverage site The Vangaurd and the The Tribune. I love to hear the feedback from people who listen and tell me they like the song or they don’t, either way i know they listened and gave it shot.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Hearing someone tell you how your music has affected them in anyway. Seeing thier face and true reaction to something I’ve created. There’s no better feeling, even it’s one person that’s count as a million people to me.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes! After reading “The Richest man in Babylon, Think rich grow rich and 48 laws of power I’ve learned how to maneuver better and make better choices in life and in business. I recommend any three of these books to antmtine who wants to know how to expand thier power, mind and self control
